Hello! Popping back up for all the posts in the past month. Im 13 months into the contract and there are some regrets. Mainly underestimating the not so strong leadership at the hospital that seems to disregard the nurses and our rights... and heavy workload. However I've learned a lot and can say I'm a better nurse because of it all.. I've had super high acuity patients so you'll get the experience . It's too bad now because in theory I could easily get a job at another hospital now .. but I can't leave yet. It's discouraging but I can't say I 100% regret signing the contract . What doesn't kill you makes you stronger

I work on the Stepdown Unit/DOU which is very nice! Both Stepdown Units are excellent and the overall Critical Care Department is excellent! Now I float to Telemetry sometimes and well.. it's different. It really depends on which Tele Unit you go to. I don't want to bash any particular unit online, but yea some units are good and others are a different story ? ...

Yea I only had 2 days too and no nothing you need to brush up on. All the learning is on the unit! You're welcome and good luck !

The quiz is about medicines still Oldgrad66. Also I started working probably within 2 weeks after onboarding. My references were never checked LOL. And I really enjoy my unit I've been there 3 months and it's going well. Positive thing is there a great sense of teamwork on my unit. Everyone is overall helpful and you won't be left in the dust if you don't know anything . The negative honestly can be the workload. I feel like this hospital requires more work than others as far as patient care. As far as admitting, discharging, case management, wound care Wednesdays.. I mean it's a lot .

Oh WOW!. I had no idea the 8 weeks was temporary. I feel 8 weeks is the perfect amount of time since we didn't get a chance to do all of orientation classes due to COVID. We only did some orientation days/classes. Also yes we took a medication test during the nursing orientation. This wasnt part of the interview process it was after we got our floor assignments and everything. They gave us a packet to study from on one day then when we came back for a second day of orientation they gave us a test . It was multiple choice with some dosage calculations. Very simple it was no different from nursing school. Also no problem I'll answer what I can!

So its actually an 8 week orientation. I heard it used to be 6 weeks a while back but I guess they changed it. I feel I will definitely be ready by June 13th! I have a good preceptor and there have been so many clinical scenarios already that it just was easy for me to learn and catch on. And yea I totally get you it's hard so this is a good option for you, just hope you end up on a good unit cause I heard some arent as nice as others ya know? Hit and miss. For the interview with Mike at Pioneer it was really easy he just asked me what experience I had in Nursing school, what I would be comfortable with, etc. At Centinela my interview with the clinical supervisor was a little harder since he did ask me some questions like do I know about Trachs, Vents, PICC lines etc. And he did ask about one clincial scenario which I dont recall at the moment but it was related I think to respiratory distress. Overall though I would say it wasnt a terrible interview experience

Hi! It's going super well!! I'm on a really awesome unit 5 East with a good team and support system. My orientation experience has been great and no different from the other employees! My orienting period ends on June 12th and I'll be on my own June 13th! Now for someone who really has had a hard time getting into a new grad program and someone who just wants the experience and to get their foot in the door. I recommend them ! No complaints from me.

Maybe so!! And thanks! Yes they did mention an interview! But they said not in the sense of if they dont like me I dont work at all, it was more like an interview just to see if the unit was the right fit for me.. and it was. If it wasnt they said I would just be moved to a different unit. So .. I guess that is sorta like an orient to the unit or a meet and greet! And Natty yea it is super competitive I mean on Indeed I was notified this position had 115 applicants since it was first posted online .. but the process was fairly simple you get an interview, then after being offered a position usually the process would be very quick.

CONGRATS!! I'll be on the DOU at Centinela! I interviewed with the clincial supervisor At Centinela as well since the unit I will be on , the DOU, is a critical care unit and they have to make sure I can preform the duties necessary to work on that unit. I was supposed to be on Tele so I guess they wanted to see could I step up and be successful on that unit instead. So far there was some delays with but I finally start next week with orientation, training, and then of course meeting my preceptor and starting on the unit!

It went fine it wasnt difficult! There is one with pioneer and one with Centinela. The Centinela one was more in depth. Also you somewhat get a choice of which unit, but it also depends on need! Definitely voice your preference though that doesnt hurt. The base pay is on the lower end for a nurse if you work only 3 shifts a week for the entire year. But if you work a little extra the pay isn't too terrible.

It went well! I signed the contract for a few reasons. 1. As a new grad I cant be picky 2. The other new grad programs I applied for also had new Grad contracts 3. Job market for new grad nurses is competitive in Southern California 4. Centinela was actually my 2nd choice hospital, and is a teaching hospital 5. Nurses who I've talked to who work there enjoy it and boast about the experience they are getting 6. In 2 years I'll have my experience to actually work at hospitals which arent as New Grad friendly and require more experience (Ex: Kaiser Permanente) Good luck to you all!

Hi! Well I interview with the same staffing agency soon and had the same questions. However I did speak to a nurse who works at Centinela in the ER who also was hired by them who said she does like Centinela, loves her coworkers, that it's a great place to master all the nursing skills, however the only downfall potentially is the pay.

Has anyone received a call yet?

Hi all! I applied to the Acute Adolescent Unit but was told by the Nurse Educator that the manager of that unit also will consider applicants to join the Acute Care Peds Unit too! Either way I hope to hear back too! Did anyone receive any emails after first applying with any updates? Or do we just wait for a call if we are selected to interview?
