  1. Hi all, I am finishing my first semester of an accelerated BSN program and am feeling pretty down about my decision to get into nursing. I am looking to see if anyone else is feeling the same way, or if there are any nurses out there who felt this way but held on. I am currently at the top of my class but I go home feeling terrible about myself every day. I just finished my first clinical rotation and received a top notch evaluation from my instructor, but I still feel like I am not good enough. Working in the hospital makes me feel depressed because I do not agree with the way a lot of things are done in health care. I also feel like so much of nursing/healthcare involves keeping people alive who are so sick and have no quality of life for the sake of a profit. A select few of my professors are great and promote a positive learning environment, but a lot of them have huge egos and make me feel terrible for being intelligent, almost as if they are threatened by me. For the first time in my life I feel bad for being smart. I miss hard science and being in a laboratory setting, so I have been considering transferring into a clinical lab science program since I already have a degree in biology/chemistry and have taken almost all of the required courses, but people online seem to think that CLS is also a terrible job. Is anyone feeling the same way, or are there any current nurses who once felt this way? How did you get through it? Do you think that continuing on was worth it?
  2. Hello everyone! I noticed that there are currently no posts regarding the UMass Amherst ABSN program for the 2019 cycle so I figured I would start one. I am in the middle of completing my application and would like to connect with other applicants, as well as previously accepted students that might me able to give some advice about the program. I am currently worried about my lack of experience because I have only held volunteer positions, but the admission criteria doesn't mention experience as a requirement. Thanks!
  3. Hello everyone and congrats to all who have already been accepted! I am finishing up my application for Spring 2019 through nursing CAS and have a few questions. For those who have been accepted already, what kind of financial aid/ scholarship package did you receive? I am currently 21 years old and "independent" for tax purposes with very little income. Also, what was your GPA/experience like when applying? I graduated with a BS in biology/minor in chemistry in May 2018 with a 3.76 cGPA and from the honors program. In terms of healthcare experience, I did a volunteer internship at a nursing home where I acquired 100+ hours of volunteering/observing various nurses (LPN, CNA, RN, and NP's). I currently volunteer at a reputable hospital, but aside from that, I don't have much experience. I was a TA for many classes and was involved in undergraduate biochemistry research and completed a thesis. I'm hoping my grades/involvement in my undergrad career can make up for my lack of experience. Thanks in advance for any advice!
