Had something interest happen this past weekend
YES!! that is what makes our day, when we can see/feel "something's up" and act upon it regardless of what others say/do. I'm sure the "other side" is realizing (or i hope they do) that we are there to do just that.I'm still in orientation for my 1st "jail time"( lol!!) and i'm sure loving it compared to the war..oops...i mean work zone's i've been in (med surg/ltc). I sure do appreciate you writing in to tell about his symptoms/progress.Last time i took care of a perf. ulcer pt i felt he was going to go into DT"S, warned everyone, nurses and doc-i asked for librium for him and was told to "watch and wait", well lo and behold i come in one night and catch this guy up standing, stretching his central line across the room as well as his NGT. I go in to check him out and he tells me that he is up because "the urinal that you gave me has a hole in it", says "there it is, go look for your self", i look down at his chair and there is his incentive spirometer leaking with urine:w00t::w00t:;) so there i go calling the md for that librium and some ativan at 2am. gee i felt sooooo bad for calling at that time of the morning:innerconf. Please keep us posted, i'm sure he will thank you when he gets back to you. Keep up the good work!!!!

Cancelled
Hi chica!, i too resigned last yr from a hosp with the same feelings about self esteem and worth, i am from the north originally and believe me when i tell you that i feel us nurses get tons more respect from the managers AND md's up there than down here. I am from fl. too! (4 yrs)and don't ever feel as if you have to put up with garbage treatment!! There are better managers out there, its just a matter being able to find the right job with the right environment for you. Us nurses have to put up with so much as it is, you would figure that fellow nurses in management would stick up for you...alot of times its the opposite..kinda like fighting city hall..lol:uhoh3:

How safe is it, really?
I sure do hope i am as lucky as you are!! i did get this position!! and i am finding out more as i go from these forums and from people who either have retired from the facilites, who have worked agency ( i never gathered the guts lol)...guess with age, i've become more willing to try new areas in nsg. What i meant with the "conscience" statement was that i spoke to an agency nurse who told me that 1 nurse was escorted out of her job because the nurse did not write a statement regarding an incident that had happened in the best interest of the c/o, so, yes, i am a very honest person and would have trouble creating an incident in favor of something else...have you ever heard of such a thing?? thanks for your response!!, otherwise, nsg is nsg to me, inpt/inmate-safety 1st!!

How safe is it, really?
thanks for your input, i heard yest, that i got this position and have been finding out more info from people in the correctional field, they tell me that "its the people you work with that you have to watch out for, not the inmates" ( which, of course, i do on a daily basis now), unfortunately..:uhoh21:

How safe is it, really?
Hi all, nice to join this great site, I've been an lpn for 15yrs now and have enjoyed every minute of it...everything from peds, devel. disab, med surg, ltc,. Now I've been thinking also about corrections and i've been getting such different opinions (one tells me "you will have to leave your concience at the door"). So here i am, wondering if all prisons are pretty much the same ( considering a county jail) which is what? state or federal? can't seem to figure that one out yet either. How about OT? everyone on this forum seems to be on the same page on that one..lol.. that there is plenty of it..I did ask the HR and she said "i want to say yes", BUT, don't really know, so, how about helping this confused:idea: nurse today.....BTY, I live in Fl. THANKS TO ALL!!
