What is nursing school like?
It is not as bad as some people make it out. Nursing is my second degree and I find the course load about as hard as my first degree. The fact is that college is suppossed to be challenging. I find the most important thing is to study consistantly everyday. It is not always possible but if you miss 1 day it is still not as bad as cramming for 12 hours.

Tattoos and nursing
they even tell us what underwear to wear to clinicals. too funny. what if you wore mens briefs... as for tats i have one, and am thinking about another but i have to agree that they can look unprofessional. i used to work with a really nice guy but he had some scary looking tattoos, he looked liked a charlie manson ex-con and i feel that he needed to cover those things up.

written up already!
I would not dwell on the actual "write up" I would focus on the events that led to the situation. Ask myself why did this happen? what can I do to prevent it again? What I would not do...Concern myself with others behavior, or dwell on it. The fact is it happend, and it's over, so make a mental note and move on. Honestly, in 10 years are you going to be thinking, "wow, I still can't believe I missed that order my first year in nursing" :)

ER the most physically demanding?
I think that the Neuro floors are tougher in terms of having to lift patients. I worked as a tech in the ER and on a Neuro floor which means that I was lifting most of the patients. Neuro patients were usually paralyzed. Never worked in the ER as a nurse so I cannot really speak to that. I plan on going back to ER next year after I rap up my RN. I work rehab now as LPN and it can be heavy too. I often think that Peds would be nice (little people are easyto lift), but way too depressing for me.

PLEASE HELP! TOPIC-Men in Nursing
School: I was dreading my OB rotation, I thought for sure that I would be standing outside the door and nobody would want me. But that did not happen, I did not have a single patient refuse me, and the nurses and NP's were great. We did have 1 patient ask that a male student not be allowed but it was a religion thing and the family seemed polite. As for actual work I have been refused by a patient, once again it was an older patient from a different culture. But one time we had a patient from Afganistan and he actually preferred male care givers. Very nice people. In my opinion nursing is about professionalism, compassion, and helping others, gender is a secondary issue and not a major one in my opinion. BTW... if a patient does ask for a female nurse, don't panic there are plenty of patients for all of us.

Tall scrubs? What about fanny packs?
Fanny Pack should be called a germ bag yuck! We had a student in my last clinical who carried so many things in his pack and clipped to it that we called him the accessorry man, he must have had an exta kilo of gear on him.
