  1. Yes, it is required that you have a score of 26. At least, it was a 2y1/2 ag o. I did the OPI, but it was very difficult because the owner of the place it seems not to be very reliable or maybe I need more experience. You need to go the the board, that is the best advice and be very patient because it takes a lot of time. Do you work in other state already? Maybe you don't need to do the English test if you have your license already. Good Luck!!!
  2. I am a L&D RN who refused my assignment prior to take it report on an induction of a 19 weeks with twins with a SROM because of my moral and religious belief. However, my charge nurse as well my manager persuade me to take it. I was totally unstable emotionally. Do you think that this was an induced abortion? And my rights, do I have to participate on it? Should I be discriminated by my co-workers bc of my beliefs? Since then, I can't stop to think about this issue and situation.I am also having stomach pains. Should I sue this facility? Also, I have been assigned just for postpartum care since it happened. Can they do that? I can't stand to work on this place anymore being discriminated. It is a terrible feeling. I feel like a fish out of the water.
  3. I got my first interview already for a PP department. But the manager said that they couldn't hire me because of a tight budget, because the hospital is a Catholic. Even tough, she said that I was really well at the interview. But, for me it didn't make sense if they couldn't hire anyone why they where doing interviews? Anyway, I am just going to keep trying it. Carol
  4. Chantal, I think the best way to get information is contacting your Nursing Board or maybe do some researches online. Carol
  5. Thank you for the advices. I have been trying in every hospital with 30 miles from my home to improve the chances.. Carol
  6. Where can I find easily an Entry-Level position at L&D, Mother/Baby or some area related to it? I have been searching job for a month and I just got an interview for PP, that it didn't work because of a budget issue f the company. Anyway, most of these positions require some experience. But, I have to begin in somewhere to acquire it. Should I try to go to other specialty and then after 6 months or year transfer for L&D? Also, should I put on my resume's objective that I am an entry-level RN? However I graduated in 2004 back in Brazil, I just was able to get my license this last April at the U.S. Furthermore, I didn't get any experience as a RN back there because I relocated to here after my graduation, which I really regretted. Please, help me because I am really frustrated it with all this search. Thanks.. Carol

  8. Usually, they ask what are your weakness and strength. What are you personal qualities. Why you choose nursing and probably L&D.What are you work skills? Why did you choose that company? Give some example of a difficult situation that you had in a previous job and how did you handle it. Then , they will ask if you have some questions. I am sure that you can find more info at careers webs. Carol
  9. Hi All, I graduated in BSN in June,2004 in Brazil. But, just now that I got my RN license in US. I began to search for an OB position, but it seems that most of the place require some previous experience. I have it as Nurse Trainee in hospitals and public health clinics. Can I consider it as years of experience? Further more, I am looking for a place that does not do abortion. Should I put this in my resume? Anyway, yesterday I went at a nursing job fair and the Nurse recruiter told me that they didn't have any position available. But, I did a research in the website and I found it one, which requires 1 year of experience. Should I send an email to her? Or they will just hire me as an entry-level Nurse since I don't have experience as a RN. Please, let me know what do you think about it. Carol
  10. Suzanne, Can you be more specificly? Because in Maryland the requirement is that for foreign Nurses can take the Nclex just after pass in the Oral English Test. After that I am going to receive an authorization letter, which is required to show in the day of the NCLEX exam. If you could tell me some state that you know which allows to take the NCLEX before to take the English test I will appreciate. Thanks, Happy New Year!!!! Carol
  11. Suzanne, Can you tell me which states do not require English test before to take the NCLEX? I was wondering if I need to do this oral English test before to take the NCLEX or if I have the choice to do after I pass in the NCLEX. Because I am very tired of these English tests and I would like to be able to do the NCLEX and after that I could try again the English test again if it is really a requirement to work as a Nurse in U.S. Thanks a lot for your advices!!! Carol
  12. I am actually passing for this process of English tests. I have already done the TSE and OPI for the Board of Maryland. For experience I can tell you that the both tests are very tough, even tought I prefer the OPI because you can expresse yourself better, not only like a memorization but also you can interact with the interview. I almost passed in the OPI but just because of 9 pts I have failed. I think that these test centers want to make a lot of money with us and still procrastinating our process until some day you go behind to them and to say the truth for them. I am thinking to send a letter for the senator of MD, because I do not think that it is fair the way that they evaluate us. I would like to know if these English Test Centers have some Board and laws that they need to follow up and also the CGFNS. I have been passing for this whole process for more than one year, although they have been saying that they have a shortage of Nurses in U.S. I am beginning to loose my patience and I am thinking very serious to return to my country, because there I know that they will recognized my value as a dedicated Nurse for the society. Are no until where these Boards and evaluaters are thrustly. It's an absurd!!!!
  13. Hi.. I am RN - BSN from Brazil and I am going to take the Nclex, after that I would like to work in the obstetric field.I was thinking to do a specialization in Obstetric. What is the best position for me as RN staff or Nurse Midwife? I did a research and I saw that RN staff normally just need to have Associate's degree and to be a Nurse Midwife i think I may have a special license for it. Can someone clarify it for me? Thanks.. Carol
