New to travel..have questions on my first assignment
hello everyone! i am new to travel/contract nursing and after turning down a handful of assignments that were offered, i finally feel like i chose the right one. just want to see if any of you experienced travelers think the contract i was offered sounds like it is worth the time. i will be working 40 minutes from my home at a veteran's home. i don't need insurance or any of the housing or travel stipends. this is the offer i received: 13 week contract with a $500 completion bonus/$100 compliance bonus for turning paperwork in within 24 hours $799.00 tax free weekly $11.00 per hour taxed i will be working five 8 hour shifts and will be paid for 37.5 hours. the hours are 2:15pm until 10:45pm i figure the total take home pay per week will be around $1175.00 i am currently working three 12 hours shifts at a local hospital on a stroke unit. i have been there for one year and am completely burned out:eek:. i do plan on staying at the hospital per diem just in case i don't end up with another assignment after this one ends. any comments good:up: or bad:down: would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!

Fresenius Dialysis Advice on taking the job
I have a situation I need to explain and I hope I can get some much needed advice!!! I graduated nursing school in May 2008. I got my license in March 2009, I had two unsuccessful attempts at the NCLEX, but that doesn't matter now, I am now a registered nurse!! I have had a home care case taking care of a brain injured patient for a year and a half. He has a trach and G/J tube, so it's not a very complicated case. I understand and consider myself a "new " nurse. I had a job interview at Fresenius two weeks ago and the manager hired me on the spot. It took them a while to get back to me with some shadowing opportunities on the acute care unit at our local hospital. I shadowed today and by the time I got home I have a job offer with the pay rate included. I am in upstate New York and the hospitals here start new RN's anywhere from $21.50 - $23.00 per hour. This company wants to start me at $20.38 hr. I an undecided on this rate, I feel they should be a little bit more competitive with the hospitals. Any advice? Should I hold out and see what else comes along? Anything good or bad anyone can ad regarding this company? I thought I saw a post on here that said Fresenius starts you out at $4.00 more than the hospitals do? That's not the case here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

Where do I get an NPI assignment letter?
Hi all, I am applying to get my medicaid provider number, I have all the paperwork all filled out, ready to mail. On my required documentation checklist it says "submit a copy of your National Provider Identifier assignment letter issued by CMS". Do I have to have that to be able to apply for my medicaid number? If so, how do I get one? I have been looking all over on the internet, sooo confusing. Also, anyone know of any website that lists available jobs for RN's with medicaid numbers? I live in upstate New York....helpppppp....any help would be greatly greatly appreciated!!!!!

I still can't believe it, do you know I have signed on to Pearson Vue numerous times each day, I keep looking at those words "pass", can't beat this feeling!!!!! :redpinkhe Best of luck to you, let us know when you PASS!!!!!

Passed NCLEX 127 questions THIRD times a charm
hello everyone, i haven't posted here in a while, even though i was always on reading posts. i took my nclex on friday, march 13th. i had switched my date to the middle of april so i could do suzanne's plan...then i decided i didn't want to wait that long, so i switched my date back to march. i didn't do a ton of studying , which i couldn't understand why i was slacking so badly when i already failed the exam twice. well a few days before the exam, i took all the qtrainer tests and listened to kaplan test taking strategies tape. i wasn't nervous at all going to the exam. i couldn't believe when the computer shut off at 127 questions. first time i had all 265, second time 75, i obviously failed miserably. i saw my results were ready at 9:30 this morning. my hands were trembling as i put my credit card number in, i covered my eyes, i was literally afraid to look. when i saw the words pass, i was screaming and crying :bow:all at the same time. i was shocked. so i called everyone i know, my husband was even crying and was working out at the gym, came home with a huge bunch of flowers :loveya:for me. i have signed back in to pearson vue website 14 times today...i just cant stop looking at the words "pass". so for everyone out there that is a multiple test taker, it is possible to pass this exam. i walked out of the center not knowing what to think....i still can't believe it...i have been writing the initials rn :clphnds:after my name...it doesn't seem real, i keep thinking i am dreaming...good luck to everyone who was in the same boat as i was...i am proof, it can be done....you can do it...believe in yourself and you will succeed!!!!! :dancgrp:

any advice on how to figure out how to take this exam? i have never heard of a critical thinking course...would that be a kaplan type course? i am sure a ton of repeat test takers would appreciate any advice on this topic.

i also found out last week that i did not pass. i took the exam on monday, got quickresults on wednesday, called the bon and pearson on thursday, had my new att & scheduled my exam all on thursday. my steps were....i had to pay another $200 to pearson, then call my bon to let them know i paid the $200. then i called pearson and they said my att would be emailed within 48 hours. well, i received my att within 20 minutes. i logged back on to pearson and scheduled my exam. good luck and let us know how you make out.

Reconsidering
i always feel this way, i don't know what i want to do either. as you already know i need to pass the nclex first. i have a 16 hr. a week job right now working in homecare. my pt. is 37 yo male who is in a persistent vegetative state, has a trach and is tube fed. he is like this due to a medication error involving dilaudid. very very sad. don't feel like you are alone, i have no idea where to go after i pass the exam. i feel like i should start off on a medsurge floor to get my foundation down and then decide from there. i know the feeling of dreading going to work, i went through that last year when i worked as a tech in the ed of a level 3 trauma center, i was more scared to death than anything else ~~ do you think that is the case with yourself? best of luck to you, keep us posted.

Received letter with my results...OMG
my previous study plans were...uggghh..:no:not to good. i am most upset with myself because once again, i procrastinated. i would just answer questions from saunders, nclex 4000 and mosby's study cards. i never really had a schedule or a routine. it was all hit or miss. the only thing that is keeping me going right now is this...had i completed suzanne's plan or ncsbn and i knew in my heart that i studied to my fullest ability and really had a grasp on things...i would be 10 times more devastated that i already am...this is my own fault to think that i could study 3 hours a week and go in and pass this exam. this is why now i am going to give it everything i have, i mean everything. i have learned a very hard lesson..not once..but twice....this exam is not one you can half study for and think you are going to pass. i have let my family and friends down twice...and i refuse to do it again. thanks for the positive thoughts, i appreciate them!!!!:heartbeat

Received letter with my results...OMG
i received my official letter yesterday with my specific results in each category...wow i did sooo much worse than the first time...which i knew anyways when the computer shut off at 75 questions. the 1st 4 categories i scored "below the passing standard :cry:and the last 4 i scored "near the passing standard". i am trying not to feel like i will never pass this exam but it is getting harder to stay positive. las time i tested, i was above on 2 categories, below on 1 and the rest were near passing. i really blew it this time. starting monday i have to focus my whole life on studying, i really have to be dedicated. i can't even imagine not passing this next time. i feel like i have no memory at all about anything i learned in nursing school. i have to get my priorities in order and write out a study schedule and stick to it. i already told my husband that all the running around with the kids and their activities is coming to a complete stop...it's all him now...the most i am going to do is cook dinner and do laundry. grocery shopping, parties, cleaning and everything else is all on his plate....i can't do this anymore.

~~~~failed 2nd Time At 75~~~~
i called my bon, i live in upstate ny, they told me to log on to pearson, pay my $200, then call bon back, they released my att to pearson. so then i called pearson, they said they would email my att within 24-48 hours..well it was emailed in 5 minutes...then i logged back onto pearson to schedule. the same thing happened last time when i had to schedule the 2nd test. what state are you from? are you working right now? you have got to be exhausted..i have 3 kids which is hard, but being pregnant has go to be very tiring...i know all i wanted to do when i was pregnant was sleep!!! let me know what you find out....good luck:up:
**Feeling Blue About NCLEX: Need Advice Please**
i am in the same boat as you are...took my 2nd exam monday found out i failed wednesday..and at 75 questions...i already rescheduled my exam and the only people that know is all nurses, my husband and my mother. i am very tired of people asking me, i know they mean well but the stress is too much having to tell people, "no i failed again"...that gives me more anxiety sometimes than the test itself...best of luck...we can do this...at least we have people on this board to talk to that have been there, done that...that in itself is a blessing!!!!
