  1. Hi, I was a nursing attendant in the float pool at Columbia Presbyterian. It's really good experience if you're a nursing student. You float to various units that needs staffing, however, you only know which unit you're going to just before you start your shift because you have to pick up your assignment from the nursing office after you clock in. You will either be on the floor with the techs or you will be sitting on 1:1s. Part timers do a minimum of 2 shifts a week, but there are many opportunities to pick up extra shifts, especially on nights. You can pick up shifts as a full time NA too. it's good experience in that you move around and observe and help nurses and some are very willing and nice when you tell them you're in school. Not every unit is nice though, but for the most part, working there has been a positive experience. The supervisor for NAs is amazing though, so you feel very supported working there.
  2. I was hoping 'finding out soon' would mean today LOL ...I just hope it can be before the week is out.
  3. Will today be the day.... ?? . This is getting nerve-wracking..
  4. To Abdou: I'm an evening applicant, so I had additional requirements. It took me three semesters to complete all 5 PCI courses in addition to A&P 2, Microbiology, Eng 2, & Speech simply because the Micro and A&P have prerequisites and I had to take them in that order. However, MAT 104 MUST be taken at BMCC, in case you are transferring other other eligible PCI credits from another school. If not, then you can finish the five courses in a year or less. This is a breakdown of when I did my courses: Spring 2020 -MAT 104 -ENG 101 -PSY 100 (this was transferred from my previous school) -CHE 121 -SPE 100 Summer 2020 -BIO 425 Fall 2020 -ENG 201 -BIO 426 Spring 2021 -BIO 420
  5. I am also May 4th at 9am. These exams are right around the corner!
  6. Thank you. This is very helpful. I currently work the weekends at the nursing home, but I will be looking for hospital opportunities.
  7. That is true, but it seems like the requirements keep changing from a year ago as I had to look at the updates just now. For the evening, the five PCI are CHE 121 (which implemented for Fall 2020 onward), ENG 101, MAT 104, BIO 425 & PSY 100 (I remember before you could've swapped this with SOC 100). BIO 426 and BIO 420 are also required before entering the program. ENG 201 is listed on the latest checklist and I am now unsure if it is factored into the entry GPA. I also see SPE 100. I had also once emailed the nursing advisor and she sent me the requirements info. One thing that I was unsure of is if I can take a class while applying for the program and she told me that only BIO 420 can have a grade pending while I submit the application. That's the last class I am taking this semester as I will be applying for the fall. I apologize if I am repeating myself from my previous post or providing unnecessary information, but I would definitely welcome any corrections, clarifications, or information that I am missing or wrong about. nursing-adminssions-checklist.pdf
  8. Hello. Based on what you were told by the nursing dept, the four classes - ENG 101, MTH 104, BIO 425 & PSY 100 - are the prerequisites you need to apply for the day program. ENG 201 and SPE 100 can be taken while you are completing the program. So they will not necessarily factor in your grade for ENG 201 during your application process, but if you choose to retake or dispute it, it will only serve the benefit of improving your overall GPA, and not affecting your chances of applying for the program. Don't be discouraged. You have stellar grades and you only need BIO 425 to complete your four prerequisites. In my case, I am applying for the evening program for Fall 2021. If that is the session you are applying for, then you will need ENG 201 to be eligible to apply.
  9. A little bit off-topic here but did you all had to be health science majors prior to applying for the program? Or was being a liberal arts major (that is if you are) accepted by the nursing department? Best of luck to everyone as you await your results! Hang tight.
  10. Thank you, JDMNYC, for being so thorough. This information is very helpful! Do keep us posted on your journey. I know I would love to hear about your experiences. Best of wishes to you and everyone else here awaiting acceptance.
  11. Dear JDMNYC, Great job on attaining those excellent scores. I am also interested in applying for the evening program and I have a few questions regarding your correspondence with the advisor. 1. Do you know if those 300 applicants are for both day and evening students? 2. Is the letter of recommendation a new requirement for evening applicants? Is it to verify that the applicant is a full-time day employee? 3. Is there anything that you can share about being an evening applicant? I just feel that most conversations and experiences I find are for the day applicants. Not so many resources for evening applicants... Thank you and all the best to you.
  12. Hello Everyone. What general classes would you recommend taking for BSN transfer while taking prerequisites? Next semester I will be taking my last two prerequisites for entry into the evening program, but I want to take two more classes to be full-time. So far, I have received credit for statistics. What other courses besides nutrition and developmental psychology can I take that I can transfer into a BSN, provided I get into BMCC's program? Best of luck to every one of you.
  13. For students who are already in the program, what textbooks are you guys using?
  14. Hi everyone. Are you required to complete all pre-requisites with grades received when you complete the checklist/apply to the program? For example, I completed all pre-requisites except A&P2 which I will take in the Fall. Can I apply for Spring 2021 even though I will receive that grade in late December? I heard that they accept on a conditional basis. Thank you and my prayers with you all!
