  1. Hello! Has anyone applied to the newest El Camino New Grad Cohort? Applications were closed July 1st, has anyone heard of anything so far? It would be great to hear some updates if anyone knows any information.
  2. I was pretty skeptical about the position as well if they're willing to hire a new grad for the whole district. Hopefully they have extensive training and won't throw me out on the field right off the bat. Thank you so much for your insight I really appreciate it!
  3. Hello! I feel like I am in the same position as you. I want to be in a certain specialty but have to settle for something else because that's what my circumstances are at the moment. I think getting your foot in the door with NICU then going to L&D when the position is open works out just fine. It's better getting a job working with a specialty that is somewhat in your favor than a job that is completely the opposite. If you're afraid you'll lose your adult assessment skills then continue studying and practicing. It may be harder said than done, but if you're truly passionate about L&D you'll do all that you can to prove others that's where you really belong! It's also really hard to not compare yourself to your classmates because girl I am right there with you, but we should remember our nursing journey is our own and shouldn't be compared to others. Hopefully this advice helps!

  5. Hello! I went to nursing school out of state in Nevada and finished in 18mos. Tuition was 60K plus cost of living. It didn't take long for me to get my license from CA. I'm currently looking around for jobs and it is a little harder because my clinical experience doesn't come from CA, plus the competition here is way more intense than any other state. My friends from my cohort instantly got jobs in the specialty of their desire because the job hunting wasn't as intense. Nevada also has so many new grad programs and hospitals to apply to. I don't think moving out of state is a bad idea at all. I absolutely loved it and learned so much and met so many new people from all over the country, which will for sure help with networking down the road. If you're worried about your loans, I suggest going to a state that has a quick program and low cost of living. The faster you get out the quicker you can find a job! I highly recommend going to Nevada! Hope this helped in any way at all!
  6. Hello! From my experience, nursing schools didn't really look at my other classes other than my pre requisites. The program I finished school at only looked at my pre-req GPA and didn't look at my other classes, which was such a waste because I could have just taken my pre-reqs. Hope this helps!
  7. Hello all! I am new graduate nurse with a BSN. I'm having trouble deciding how to reach my goal of becoming a pediatrics nurse in the acute care/clinical setting. I currently have a job offer as a school nurse as I patiently wait to hear back from new graduate pediatric programs. If I unfortunately don't get accepted into one of these programs, would the school nursing position help me land a position in the pediatrics clinical setting or should I try to find experience in a SNF or other type of acute care/clinical setting? If anyone has advice or any thoughts on this, please do let me know I would appreciate the help! (:
