  1. I'm in my first year of a residency program. Nursing is my second career and it has taken me several years to get to where I am today. I love where I work and what I do, but I've found working a typical hospital schedule is not working for my family life and has caused much stress. I want to transition to something else with a Mon-Fri 9-5 schedule once my contract is up but I'm unsure if that entails a position as an RN, or whether I should go back to school for my master's. I wouldn't have much experience as a registered nurse so I'm afraid I wont be able to find many positions open to me with that schedule, or even what to look into. I dont really know what area I want to work in, so anyone with advice on positions that are Mon-Fri with "normal hours" and what education or experience is needed would be appreciated!! Thanks ?
  2. I too would love a Mon-Fri 9-5 nursing job with weekends and holidays off. Other than school nursing, I havent been able to find many positions open to RNs. I currently work weekends (night shift). I LOVE night shift and working 3 12s in a row with 4 days off. It's ideal for ME. Unfortunately, having a young child and husband at home, I find my schedule is not the best for work/life balance. I would never have thought I'd want to go back to a typical 40 hour 5 day work week like I did in my prior job field but I never get to spend time with my family on the weekends and it's tough.
  3. In my facility, NNPs do not do 12 hour night shifts. We have 2 NNPs during day shift, a 12 hour and a 24 hour. The one working a 12 leaves and the 24 hour stays so we only have one NNP on night shift. The 24 hour NNP tries to sleep during day shift a little as well in case they have a busy night and dont get to.
  4. I got accepted into UTHSCSA (now UT Health) with a 3.0 Math/Science GPA, which is the minimum. They look at overall GPA, and TEAS score as well, so even though your math and science GPA isn't the best, there is definitely hope. You'll never know unless you apply. Good luck!!
