Hey everyone, So I'm 23 years old and graduated nursing school back in May 2020. The whole reason I became a nurse was to work in L&D/Postpartum. I realized in nursing school during that OB rotation that was my passion and that's the place I wanted to start my career. Unfortunately, there were very limited to no jobs in women's services after graduation so I took a med/surg position. I've been working in med/surg the past 8 months or so and absolutely hate it. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for the experience, but the thought of me working on a floor like this for the rest of my life is super depressing. Despite disliking my job, I don't let it affect my work. I'm known as someone that is always very helpful, I put a smile on my face. I really do my job well, always going above and beyond for my patients even when they don't want my help. However, I know I'm not really happy here. I'm not sure if there's a set cut off to when I should leave, but I've applied at many L&D/postpartum jobs around my area some even an hour away from me. I either never hear back/don't get it or get told they want someone with L&D/Mother/Baby experience. I just don't understand how I'm supposed to gain any experience in those specialties if no one will give me a chance and hire me like I have to start somewhere, right? I know I haven't even been a nurse for a year and I'm probably being super dramatic. I'm just so unhappy and discouraged that I'm going to be stuck on a med/surg floor for the rest of my life. My point being: If ANYONE has been in the same situation as me or has any advice as to how I can get hired on a L&D floor/Postpartum floor with no women's services experience/as a new nurse, PLEASE let me know. Whether there's certifications I should get, something I should be putting on my resume, literally any advice is appreciated!

Hey everyone! I just took the NCLEX today at 4. It shut off in 60 questions and I left the test center balling my eyes out convinced I didn't pass. I used UWorld and the HESI NCLEX book to study for the past month and a half. I received the email from Pearson Vue about further questions, and a link for quick results. I tried the PVT an hour and a half after, 3 hours after, and then just an hour ago and it still says the same thing, "our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. another registration cannot be made at this time". From what I understand this is the good pop up. I'm not going to get my hopes up though. I am not totally 100% sure the PVT works on a Friday night but from what I've looked up it's supposed to work after you receive the email from Pearson Vue and as soon as an hour. However, when I went to purchase my quick results it said that the results weren't available yet.... so does this mean that I failed? Or can you normally not purchase the quick view results until 48 hours later? I think I'm going to buy the quick results regardless. I live in Georgia. If anyone knows if the PVT works on a Friday or at all please let me know! Or if anyone knows how soon they give you your results back with quick results please let me know! I am so nervous trying to stay positive though!

@Emr2 yeah I would be perfectly fine with it taking care of those patients is definitely rewarding but we’ll see! Let me know when you hear something!!

@Emr2 yeah it really is!! I wish I would’ve gotten a nurse externship in L&D or something I feel like it would’ve helped!! And yeah so have I! I had an interview for oncology with wellstar but I haven’t heard anything back from it they only give you 48 hours to accept it though. So I’m hoping I hear something back from Northside soon ?

@Emr2 same!! I put L&D for my first choice, mother/baby for my second, and NICU for third I’m not gonna get my hopes up though every hospital I’ve applied to has little to no spots for women’s services other than Northside Atlanta

@catfriend45 yeah I read the same thing I wonder how long we’ll get with each person or if they’re all managers or what?? Have you heard how many they’re hiring for each unit??

@catfriend45 I got a formal invitation for the L&D and Mother/Baby program recruiting event this Wednesday for the Atlanta location! @kellye_j I got an email a couple weeks ago from them inviting me to their recruiting event in March!

@Carkitty ADN congratulations on your new job and passing the nclex that’s awesome!!! I was wondering what location you ended up getting a job in??? Fayetteville this year apparently isn’t hiring any new grads for L&D and same with the newnan one

@catfriend45 Yeah I completed the survey and never got a formal invitation after it either but it said complete the survey by February 19th so maybe we get them after that day once it gives everyone time to complete the survey??

Hey y'all! I've applied to Piedmont, Emory, Wellstar, Northside, and Grady! I've heard back from Piedmont, Emory, Wellstar, and Northside just sent me an email for the L&D and Mother/Baby Residency programs today! The only one I haven't heard back from is Grady. Has anyone else heard back from Northside or Grady?

@echill40 yeah she told me over the phone to keep my mind open to other floors which is fine!! Because they typically don’t hire anyone in women’s services unless they have their preceptor ship there which unfortunately out of a nursing class of over 140 students and one L&D preceptor spot I didn’t get it lol but we’ll see I just hope I hear something by Monday!!! She also told me that she didn’t know if newnan was hiring women’s services at all but she knew Fayetteville wasn’t!!
