Congrats everyone!! Farmingdale has a great nursing program and you should all be very proud of you accomplishments. As for the classes and tests, I think they are pretty standard on how other nursing programs are. It is in no ways easy, it is a lot of hard work but it is definitely do-able. In order to pass a nursing class, your test average must be a 77 or higher. It depends on the class but most of the core nursing classes (fundamentals, med surg 1 and 2, peds/maternity, etc.) are about 85-90% based off of tests with the extra 10-15% being assignments or presentations. But your test average at the end of the semester MUST hit a 77 or higher. Besides Fundamentals which is the first semester, if you fail, you can retake the class I believe once(could be more but I don't think so). That first semester Fundamentals class is the only class if you fail once, you're out. I'm not gonna lie, there has been a couple of students that have failed out in my first semester. The others that have left throughout the program were for external reasons, not related to grades (personal family issues, having to take a semester off and picking back up a semester later, etc.) There are a couple of other nuisances that they will explain to you every semester. Things like dosage calculation tests (there's 1 every semester) that you must receive at least a 90 on to pass but you get a retake or 2 depending on the semester. There's also skills testing with hands on stuff every semester you must pass and theres a retake if needed. No one in my class has been kicked out for a dosage test or skills test. I know this seems really overwhelming and like a lot (and sometimes it can be) but you really get a handle of it once you get going. As for the professors, they are really wonderful. I can honestly say I have not had a bad teacher or a bad experience since I started this program 4 semesters ago. If you study hard and put in the work, you will succeed. All of our tests are NCLEX style questions so once you are done with the program, you are very prepared. I am happy to answer any other questions! I like it! The professors are really wonderful and I’ve def learned a lot so far. Things have obviously been different because of the show COVID thing, so all of our classes are online except clinical. It’s been an adjustment from the in person classes we’ve been doing but overall, I like the program. My overall TEAS score was like 84. Most of my prereqs were As and A-s but my GPA was awful (took college classes right outta high school years ago, didn’t care yadda yadda) I will say the TEAS are heavily weighted and the prereq classes (A&P, stats, English, etc) are weighted heavily as well.

No. It’s 8 hours like everywhere else. The DEU for my class is at St. Joes. So they will be there for pretty much every semester except peds and maternity (because they don’t have it there) so they will be going somewhere else. I believe every other semester they are there. But your classes DEU will be somewhere else I believe. They will tell you.

So registration is done on paper. You can pick either A or B schedule and you can’t move your classes around based on that. Once you decide if you want cohort A or B you write on the paper your 1st 2nd and 3rd choice for clinical. By the end of that week everyone is registered for classes and you can check on oasis. But each section A and B has their own options. For example (this may not be your choices I’m just using it as an example); cohort A may only have the choice between plainview, stony brook, and st. Joes, and cohort B will only have the choice between Winthrop, manhasset, and south Nassau. So if you really wanted let’s say manhasset, you would have to choose cohort B. But if you really needed cohort A’s schedule, you would only be able to choose between plainview, stony brook and st. Joes. There’s also a DEU program in which you write an essay at a later date (they explain this all at orientation) but you stay at that hospital the entire 3 years of school for clinical. I didn’t want to do the DEU because I currently work at a hospital and want to see multiple places but they will go over that too. The first semester is the only one that is like this. After the first semester, you can pick whichever time and clinical you would like. I hope this explains things clearly.

Congrats everyone!! Welcome to the family!!! If I remember correctly you’ll get an official acceptance packet soon and there will be an informative meeting in December going over everything! That’s when you register for classes and they answer all of your questions. So happy for you all!! See you around ?

Yes our deadline was also Oct. 15th. The first semester is the most time consuming. It is 5 days a week but there are 2 options. A morning and an afternoon(classes were from like 12ish-4ish) I was in the early morning option. My schedule was like Monday 8am-12:30, Tuesday 8am-2 (with a break in between), Wednesday 9am-12, Thursday clinical 7-3, and Friday 8am-12:45. I’m not gonna lie the first semester is ROUGH but once you get through that the schedule lightens up a ton. This semester I’m only in class Monday and Friday 9:30-12 and clinical 7-3 on Tuesdays. That’s it. And that’s how most of the semesters are. As for the other classes to take that aren’t nursing classes, I would suggest doing them in the summer or after the first semester when the schedule isn’t so hectic. A couple of my friends are taking extra non-nursing classes that they need this semester because the time allows for it. I also was between Farmingdale and Suffolk but ultimately chose Farmingdale because it’s a BSN program, but you have to do what works best for you and your schedule/life.

So I got I believe an 85 on my TEAS. My pre-req grades were a 3.8 BUT my overall GPA was god-awful. (I didn’t do so well when I was right outta high school and 18 because I just didn’t care at the time but now that I’m in my 20s I went back to school and got my stuff together lol) There’s definitely people in the program that got mid 80s on their TEAS. I know that all the info is put in a computer and that generates a list. I’m not sure what the exact formula is but it varies. Some people had better TEAS scores and average grades or better grades and average TEAS scores. It really depends. And it also depends on everyone else who has applied. Unfortunately a lot of these programs look at things that will make-up the “prime student” to pass the NCLEX. But there’s definitely a lot of different factors that go into it.

Hi all! So I stumbled upon this thread randomly but I am currently a nursing student in the Farmingdale program.
