I also chose schedule A with Plainview as my 1st choice but I am not interested in the DEU. I keep checking my Oasis to see if they officially registered us yet but nothing yet

Hey everyone! What schedule did you guys decide to pick/which hospital? Is anyone trying for the DEU?
  3. Kali, I am sorry you've had that kind on experience. Where I work, the surgical team absolutely sticks together. Of course there are times where you stay quiet but I absolutely have had nurses stick up for me and vice versa if things went unwarranted. I also don't clean my instruments either. I just bring them to a dirty room and we have central clean them, as well as housemen that mop and clean the rooms. Do techs deserve more pay? Absolutely! But I make way more than someone who is working at Costco. I believe that there are pros and cons to every job and every place and environment is different. It is important to do research about the job and where you'd be working for sure. Like you were, I am tech and in nursing school for my RN because I am young and would like to move up the rankings at some point, BUT I would never trade my tech experience for anything. I have learned so much and am better off for it. I'm sure you feel the same way! I wish other ORs had good morale in terms of good team environments. I hear a lot of stories like yours about surgeons, nurses, techs, etc not getting along. The job is stressful enough without all the outside BS drama that can go on between nurses and techs. I really think each environment is different but it is interesting to hear your experience as well!

You can still graduate in 3 years, you will just need to take those on top of your nursing classes, either during the regular semester or a summer session/winter session. I just took bioethics this semester and there's an online class for that. (I would suggest that for sure, super easy and actually enjoyable) I also have to take a humanities class and a communications class. I plan on doing those in a summer session or maybe one of the regular semesters when the schedule is a little lighter(I think there's 1 semester where we only have 7 credits for nursing)
  5. Hi there! I'm currently a surgical tech and in nursing school for my RN, with plans to continue to work in the OR as an RN when I'm done. I've learned that you either love or hate the OR. There's really no in between. I know that I found my "place" when I started in the OR. It's a different kind of stress and work flow from the floors. I love my job and it's something new every day. Surgeons can be rude, condescending, and nasty especially when you get started but I have learned to not take things personally. You do need a tough skin to work in the OR but I've found I've developed that over time. I was so so scared when I first started in clinicals and stuff as a student but you always have someone with you. Because of that, you really learn to get more comfortable and confident. Have you ever observed in the OR? You may be able to observe for a couple of hours in the OR if you work in a hospital. You'll be able to get a little taste of what you're getting into.

Are you guys planning on working during the semester too? Not sure how old everyone is etc, but I currently work full time and will be going down to part time during the semester. Just not sure how part time I will be or what my schedule will be so I'm just kinda sitting here and waiting for orientation lol

Has anyone spoken to them about how registration for classes is going to work? It seems like we'll get some sort of schedule at orientation I guess?
  8. Catsweeney

    Farmingdale Spring 2019

I assumed that too. I think we're just on the same email list as the rest of the nursing dept and was just gonna wait till orientation until I do any of that.

Are you in a different program? I go to Farmingdale too. But I've been non matriculated.

    What does that mean?

    Farmingdale Spring 2019

You're right. The people in the offices there are not really nice, like they can't be bothered to help you. That's how I've felt in the past if I needed something at least. I guess explain to them you got in and everything changed over you just haven't received a packet yet. Weird!

Yea def call them tomorrow for sure!

That is so weird! Maybe call admissions tomorrow and tell them you haven't received anything yet? What did your oasis statuses say? Have you guys been getting nursing department updates too?

Suffolk Community College Spring 2019 Nursing

Hey guys! I found out a few weeks ago I got accepted into the Farmingdale BSN program, which I was honestly not expecting at all. I was so set on Suffolk cus I felt like I needed to work full time, keep my benefits, make money, etc. and doing a BSN program I would need to go part time. Been trying to see if I can work it out fianacially and go part time at work so I can get my BSN done in 3 years asopposed to 3 years for an associate and then still having to finish my bachelors. So stressful!
