  1. CPS is a joke sometimes. One can "earn" their way onto the Central Registry because of not leaving an abusive situation when the abuse was never towards a child, only towards the parent who now is punished and put on Central Registry. So it's not fair to judge someone just because CPS is involved. My my question would be whether it would be possible to get any sort of nursing job if the name doesn't get expunged. It's hard to try and fight your way out of a bad situation when one can't even get a job to support their family.
  2. I would love to get a link to your blog when you get it set up! I think its a great idea. I feel like as long as its done informally with no names mentioned people could speak about their hospital's policies and procedures.
  3. Totally have to learn to change them one handed for your feeder/growers! Or change them when RT is there changing out the CPAP mask/prongs so they can lift and you can change. Or have parents lift while you change.

  5. Our policy was to change them every night at the 2000/2100 care time (optimally). And we have a huge NICU (115 bed). And also PRN of course. You know how some kiddos go through their sheets super quick! But it was always changed at least once per 24 hours. We used crib sheets that were made for us, mostly. Handmade giraffe sheets, bigger sheets for the cribs, and handmade pillowcases for the bassinets (or for the giraffe beds, if you run out of giraffe sheets). In a pinch we would just throw on a plain white pillowcase if we were out of handmade ones.
  6. This is the crib we used for our bigger babies. All four sides can go down. If baby is on an oscillator the head crib rail can go down so it can connect unimpeded. The HOB can elevate by cranking the handle. The whole bed doesn't go up and down but it works for most everyone. We stored diapers, wipes, and linens underneath and covered them with a sheet or quilt. I have had pretty big babies in these, up to like 6 or 7 months. So they work pretty well for a range of babies.
  7. Oh my gosh, no! I started in the NICU right out of school. 4 shifts? Hell, our training for working in the NICU was 4 months long. Classes and preceptor shifts. And even then I didn't feel comfortable doing everything! That's when you ask, ask, ask for help. Ask a nurse who has been there forever, ask your admission nurse, or your charge nurse. You couldn't possibly know everything right away! But with time you will start to feel comfortable. Hang in there!
