The meeting went awful, I'm job hunting
Is the nurse with the overtime, friends with the owner or something? Sounds kinda funny to me. That is not fair. I am sorry that happened to you. I will say a prayer that something even better will come along. Good nurses deserve better then that. Good luck.

So true. You hit the nail on the head.

"I'm an uncertified medical assistant"
In Arkansas you can not sit in on the CMA exam, but you can sit for the RMA with is not the same thing. Rma is under the med tech board and CMA is AAMA. If you attend an RMA program it is more geared toward lab. Thus the reason it is under the med tech board. Our clinic does not hire RMA's.

Saying you are a MA does not make it so. They are not reconized in our state unless they have gone to school. I am done with this post. Off to better things. Have a good night.

"I'm an uncertified medical assistant"
You said people go around claiming to be a nurse when they are not. Is this not what this board is all about? Again, they can call themselves a medical asst. all they want to but that does not make them one if they did not go to school for it. If someone did not go to school to be a nurse, then they can call themselves one all they want to but that does not make them one. I will be a BSN in less then a year. Then I plan on becoming an APN. So I see both sides. CMA's do not like for someone, with no education, to call themselves an MA, no more then a nurse likes for them (MA's)to call themselves a nurse. Our clinic will not hire someone unless they have gone to school. We never have any conflicts at our clinic with our nurses or CMA's. We do what we were hired to do and get the job done. I have never heard of this bickering about titles until I got on these boards. Each job is important. From the Docs to the cleaning crew. We need everyone one of these people to be successful. Those that claim to be something that thay are not will be caught up with some day. I am so thankful for my co-workers, they are a great and professional group of men and women.

If they did not go to school to be a medical asst., then they are not a medical asst. Same, if they did not go to school to be a nurse, they are not a nurse.- "I'm an uncertified medical assistant"
There is a big difference between a CNA and a CMA.- "I'm an uncertified medical assistant"
Well said. We do have to go to school. So it is not fair for people who have not gone to school to call themselves MA's.- "I'm an uncertified medical assistant"
Quote: It's a shame the office wants to cuts costs at the expense of a patient's health because they are worried about the bottom line. I'd leave if I didn't like my pediatrician so much. Unfortunately I think this practice is becoming more and more common. The CMA's and LPN's are on the same pay scale in our clinic.- "I'm an uncertified medical assistant"
It does not take a rocket scientitist to do a strep test. In most cases they do the swab in the lab. Nurse do not work in the lab now do they? Sometimes the tests do come back neg. and can be positive a week later. It is the test not the person doing it. It can come back neg if the patient had something to drink before the test. It can come back neg if they have been sucking on candy or cough drops, etc. Did not matter who did it the first time. It can also came back neg if it is a certian kind of strep and will only show up on a culture. But what do I know I'm only a CMA.- "I'm an uncertified medical assistant"
Now you know how if feels to be a CMA who went to school two years and to see all those that did not go to school calling themselves MA's.- "I'm an uncertified medical assistant"
Amen. I am a student also. There is alot of nurse snobbery out there. But there are some great ones too.- "I'm an uncertified medical assistant"
There are so many other things in life to worry about then this. I wish that was all I had to worry about.- "I'm an uncertified medical assistant"
True, you should not claim to be something you are not. Acccording to the BON in our state, it is not fraudulent to call yourself a nurse as long as you don't say LPN or RN. That is fradulent. I don't like people calling themselves CMa's if they have not gone to school either.- "I'm an uncertified medical assistant"
That may be true in some cases. I have an associates degree as a Medical Assistant. Our local college offers it. Its two years long. Our clinic does not hire a medical assistant unless they have gone to school for it. I am sure it varies from state to state.- Non-Nurses calling themselves a Nurse
She (the "DON") only has a high school education. They can't keep help. She is so mean to the nurses. Her best friend at the clinic is one of the "Johnny off the street" people who call themselves nurses (the ones that I do have a problem with). Anyway, the friend who is the fake nurse, if you will, did a digital block on a patients toe. The doc was going to take a toenail off so she goes in and does the digital block. ( I thought you had to be a doc to do those). Anyway she leaves the door open so the patients in the shot waiting area could see her in action. Now we all know that is a HIPPA violation! Not to mention all the other laws she is breaking! I just can't believe that she gets by with that stuff! It makes the real CMA's that went to school, like me, look bad. Stuff like that is why a lot of nurses hate CMA's. But it is stuff like that everyday at that clinic. If any of the nurses complain it's too bad because she is best friends with the "DON". This "DON" has those docs wrapped around her little finger. I have been trying to get my sister to come to our clinic to get away from that mess, but she likes the doc she works for. I told her to report that stuff to the nursing board but she is afraid to. If it was not for my sister, i would call. Well I have rattled on too much. Have a great evening!- Non-Nurses calling themselves a Nurse
Now meaning I have always had a problem with it. My sister works at a clinic as a nurse and guess who the DON is? The office manager! She is not a nurse and has only a high school education. Now that is just wrong! So I see all points. Thanks for your post! Have a great day!- Non-Nurses calling themselves a Nurse
It may just be in our state. Our clinic only hires associate degree cma's. Except in the lab they can be a RMA.- Non-Nurses calling themselves a Nurse
:nuke: I have a problem with those people now. If you will reread the posts you will see that. Its wrong for them to call themselves nurses. I don't know of any that do that. But is is also wrong to call themselves an MA if they have no formal education. Most of my friends are nurses and APN's. Therefore I have no problems with nurses. Like I said, I will still be the same even after I have my BSN. Then I will be an APN. My husband has a CMA and an RN. They are both great. I only have a problem with people who look down on others. Most CMA's, Nurses and APN's had to work hard to get where they are. So yes, I have a big problem with people walking in off the street and calling themselves nurses or cma's. They did not have to pay their dues of schooling and and sacrifice like everyone else. But there are some nurses that are just plain mean to Cma's, lab and x-ray techs, etc. I have seen a lot of hatefulness that is unnecessary. i guess that is why it upsets me so much. I don't care what people say about me on these posts. I just laugh. I know who I am. Actually I never have problems with people.:nuke: It just bothers me for the others that are mistreated and may not have the opportunities to further their education for what ever reason. I am sure none of you do this but it happens a lot. Thats all I am saying.- Non-Nurses calling themselves a Nurse
Thank you. Well said.- Non-Nurses calling themselves a Nurse
Like I said, a nurse can be just as goofy. These two sound like they are fresh off the street. I think a good CMA could have saved ya.- Non-Nurses calling themselves a Nurse
We all wear name badges with our titles. I bet he is glad you hugged him. I guess Medical Assistants around the globe are supposed to feel gratitude because you approve.- Non-Nurses calling themselves a Nurse
I agree about the fact that she was misleading. I do not think it is professional. But some nurses think they are above everyone. That is sad. They act like it is rocket science to give a shot. That Cma's are stupid. You may not feel that way but a lot do. I really don't care what people think of me. I know my abilities as do my coworkers and doctors. i will graduate this year with my BSN but am still the same person and will never mistreat trained people trying to do their job. What I do have a problem with on the other hand is people who are not trained and have no formal education calling themselves nurses or CMA's. I just wish everyone would get along and just do their job.- Non-Nurses calling themselves a Nurse
Then they are considered an RMA. Our program is an associates degree. - "I'm an uncertified medical assistant"
