South university online graduate school of nursing (msn family nurse practitioner)
Hi Melody48, I have a few questions for you. I'm getting my MSN from WGU and hopefully will be finished January 2017. I would like to just get my post-masters FNP from SU. o So, 3 courses from your MSN program transferred over to SU? Do you only have the clinical portions to complete? How long do you project it will take you, and what were the costs (approx.)? Thanks so much for any help you can give!!! my email is: [email protected] if you would like to send me a message

Any easy RN-BSN online program in the U.S.?
I would try WGU (western governor's university). I got my BSN in less than 6 months. Although, not so easy, it is challenging, it requires a lot of research and writing. Overall great experience at a fraction of what UOP offers.

PLEASE help with Interview questions
Hello, I need some help with an interview. I have a paper I am working on and need input from a CNM. The questions can be as long or as short as you can make them. And please answer as many as you can - if you can't answer them all I understand. Please e-mail me or PM back your responses. THANKS A MILLION!! Here goes: 1. Discuss how you utilize and value the knowledge of other disciplines to solve patient care problems. What team members are you most often engaged with, and what is the unique expertise of each? 2. Describe how you demonstrate appropriate teambuilding and collaborative strategies when working with interprofessional teams. 3. How do you see care applied within your particular nursing practice situation? 4. Describe the roles of different nurses (e.g., clinical nurse specialist, nurse executive, bedside nurse) in promoting safe and quality outcomes of care for diverse populations. 5. Describe how you apply quality improvement processes to implement patient safety initiatives and monitor outcomes. How are nurse-sensitive indicators monitored in your institution? 6. Describe how nurses facilitate patient-centered care in your institution and practice. How are patient-centered care and advocacy similar to and different from each other? 7. Describe a situation in your practice in which you could see that the principles of ethics, professional nursing standards, altruism, and human dignity affected your nursing practice or a specific outcome. 8. Describe a patient care initiative in your organization that improved outcomes and enhanced cost effectiveness in care delivery. 9. Describe how nursing research has improved or changed a particular aspect of patient care in your institution. How is the research project different from quality improvement activities? 10. Describe how information technology and patient data are used in your institution for ethical, effective clinical decision making and how patient confidentiality is protected. 11. Describe a particular situation in which you have been involved with the roles and responsibilities of a major healthcare regulatory agency that affected patient care quality, workplace safety, healthcare reimbursement, or the scope of nursing practice. 12. Compare nursing practice roles for the registered nurse, clinical nurse leader, advanced practice registered nurse, and clinical nurse specialist in your clinical setting. Describe specific differences in their duties, knowledge, and abilities.

Why are emergency nurses not considered critical care nurses?
I was just sent a survey from the NCSBN (National Council of state boards of nursing) asking the duties that I normally perfom in my job setting. They specifically list Emergency nursing together with All ICU nursing (Adult/neonatal/pediatric) as part of the CRITICAL CARE Nursing team. So, yes Emergency nurses are most definetly critical care nurses!!!

Confused why salaries for new grads are not higher?
Well, I had to throw my two cents in here...... I had been going back and forth about accepting a position at two-different Orange county facilities (both offered salaries of around $27.50-$28.00/hr full-time for their new grad program). I finally decided to accept a position at Harbor-UCLA, where I did my last semester of clinicals. I am in the ED, in the new grad program. I was hired, however, as part-time (benefitted) and will begin that schedule after my new grad program/orientation is over and I am making...........$40/hour!!! I think thats a great start for this new grad! So, yes the salaries are out there, it just depends on where you go. (btw this hospital is 10 minutes from redondo beach!!!!) and the program is great so far!

Help! RN at Medical-Spa.....
Hello all, I am currently looking into a part time position as a RN in a Medical-Spa. They need an RN to perform some procedures like photo-facials, microdermabrasion, skin tightening, cellulite reduction, laser hair removal etc. They tell me they will provide extensive training on how to use the equipment and perform the procedures. Anyone have experience in aesthetics (RN)? What should I expect? I am meeting with the MD at the end of the week, any specific questions I should ask? Things to look out for? Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thx

Encino-Tarzana Regional Medical Center
Hello there, Just to add my 2 cents: I worked at Tenet for over 3 years as the administrative assistant for the DON and it was a great experience for me. Granted I had an administrative role, but I loved the managers since I also gave support to the Nurse managers. The reason that DON position has been open so long is that the DON was pushing for the CNO position and when the hospital went up for "sale" she decided to go elsewhere and no one has really been able to fill her shoes since she took on a serious financial role...... Anyway, since it has been up for sale more than 2 years now, the insecurity has left everyone unsure about what will happen next. (and yes they do use lots of registry - anywhere from 10-15 daily and 4-5 travel nurse contracts at a time) About the Med/surg mgr position....I know for a fact that they have a very high turn-over rate for that position since it is TONS of work (3 floors including onc shared with another manager) and the staff nurses were getting paid more than the mgrs - so lots of them end up back as staff nurses..... In any case I loved working with the managers at that facility - I have heard Tenet elsewehere is no good, but I enjoyed working there, they paid for my nursing school while I worked there, lots of perks and you get to see lots of celebs too

Long Beach Memorial Anyone?????
hey tsheriff, I'm not sure about the pay increase - most hospitals do offer an increase after one year (changing your title from clinical nurse I to II and adding like $1) but since at memorial care they still consider you "non-experienced" until you have 2 years under your belt makes me think that the first pay raise may not be until then......but living near the beach - DEFINETELY has it's advantages. I hope you are able to work it out!

Long Beach Memorial Anyone?????
Well, Thank you both sooooooo much!!!! You have no idea how much I needed to hear those words of support and encouragement!!!! Tsheriff you're right, even though they don't offer the sign-on bonus I am SUPER excited about the opportunity to work at such an AWESOME ED! I feel like I made the right choice - I think I just needed a little "hug" and a nudge in the right direction to be sure I was doing the right thing....... THANKS AGAIN!!!! I'll let you guys know how it goes for me. Pinoy I was hoping maybe we could meet up one day. I will be on the 11am-11pm shift though. Maybe even just for a coffee break when I start next month. Take care, and thanks for such a warm :welcome:

Long Beach Memorial Anyone?????
Thanks so much for your reply Pinoy. It is true the hospital sounds great and it seems like a very nice atmosphere, it's close to home, and I really like the mgr. But I have also researched several other OC/LA hospitals and this is the only one that is forcing the whole contract issue (so far) - and 2 years at that!.... I'm just not sure i want to sign 2-years of my life away! Everytime i talk to them they really make a big deal about the 2-year committment etc and I really want to ask them why is it such an issue for them...is it because they really need to take protective measures to retain staff? If so, why is staff leaving more frequently than 2-years? I can understand if it was like "tsheriff" that is getting a sign-on bonus -they are ensuring that she stays the 2 years by giving the bonus after completing their predetermined amounts of time. Question......Did you read the fine print on the contract you both signed? signed? I'm just wondering if there is some type of penalty or something if later you want to get out of the contract - cuz for me there are tons of things that can come up in life - pregnancy/kids, move/relocation, burn-out, or simply I don't like the dept or the hospital, etc....you know? Did it seem like there was no way out of the contract or did they mention any penalty or if you can get out of it?

Long Beach Memorial Anyone?????
Actually I am starting late.....I graduated in December and got my RN license in February....I decided to take some time off before I started working. Seems like at LBMMC they are trying to reduce the number of travelers they are using, so they informed the ED mgr she could hire ASAP aside from thier normal "new grad" training program dates. I think there are about 4 other people starting with me. I am surprised though, LBMMC is not offering the sign-on bonuses they are offering at Saddleback, yet they're still asking for a 2-year commitment hmmmmm......I am going to have to see if I can negotiate with them.....

Long Beach Memorial Anyone?????
They start new grads off at $28.44. Do you also have to sign a 2-year contract? They gave me my official start date May 7th, I still have to get ACLS and PALS what about you?
