I feel you on this one. I failed my 2nd nclex exam. The first time I didn't prepare well and anxiety took over. The second time I thought I had it down and felt ok but..... didn't pass. So this time I gathered my study materials, committed to 3 only: Saunders 5th ed with cd, la charity pda, uworld. There is also a study guide mnemonics's floating around and that too. I have to train myself to answer nclex style questions but haven't got there yet. You posted on my thread while back and saying to send my email to share notes. I'm taking up that offer. Pmd you my email. Good luck to us and when are you planning to retest?

@Extra Pickles I appreciate your honesty in this. You are right that I will have to contact my BON to get the correct response at least I will know if there are requirements to endorse back to Az. I'm currently in search of a tutor and hard to find. I'm in preparation this this time. I started a list of what areas I'm weak at and a study plan. I remembered getting a lot of prioritazion questions so def on my list to work on. I don't want to fail this time. Prayers that I can pass this and get a study plan in place. I'm also contacting other states to see if they are requiring anything completed after passing nclex in their state. I don't want to get stuck working in another state just to meet their requirements. Thank you again

Hello everyone, after submitting my first post I'm still lost on what to do. Here is a quick back story: So I failed NCLEX-RN twice, it has been 2 years since I graduated nursing school in Az. In Az a refresher course is needed if it has been 2 yrs since you graduated nursing and not passed. Btw, I have been working as an LPN for 3 years now and passed nclex-pn the first time. So don't know what I need to do for RN. I have a lot of study materials and will not buy anymore. I have used Kaplan qbank and ncsbn the first time and no luck. Used nclex mastery app, uworld 2 wks before exam and did only 1000 questions (no time), saunders 5th ed given to me and only read up to 16 chapters....not setting in. I also used remar quick facts and the nclex study guide going around here.....no luck passing as well. Honestly I had terrible anxiety the first exam and the 2nd time I felt ok. I didn't feel like a failed on the second try.....I was wrong and it hurts. I'm disappointed in myself, wasted 2 months of my life again. I currently work m-f from 8-5 by the time I get home I'm tired and end up falling asleep no matter how hard I try to stay awake to study. I'm not a morning person so on the weekends I study afternoon til night. My dilemma is I have no money to take a refresher course. I have searched and courses are not cheap, starts $1200-$3000 just for a semester. I'm the only one working so one income coming in. Im in need of advice, options, or even feedback from anyone out there who went through this and how they went about. My first post is related to this but I didn't find the answers I need. A lot of advice in taking In another state and endorse back to Az. I appreciate all the comments but I didn't find a solid answer with steps. So if I apply to take exam in another state (Az is compact state) do I apply in another compact state or can it be a non compact state? Also if all goes well will I be able to endorse back to Az. I just don't want to apply and find out I can't endorse back to my home Az. please, if anyone is familiar or have actually done this I need your assistance. I'm running out time since the AzBon sent me a letter stating I have before 11/20/17 to test or I need to submit new application and fees after that date. I'm so bummed the letter doesn't even make sense because I'm not allowed to retest until I complete a refresher course which is a semester long so why give me a date if refresher is required. im sorry for the long story every one and thanks in advance.

@connorsmommy I haven't tried to contact my school. Honestly, I feel ashamed because when I failed the nclex they called me a few times and even sent me an email to contact them. I didn't because I was upset at myself and felt stupid that I didn't pass. It was hard work put into nursing school and I guess I could not accept it. But now, I should contact gem maybe they can help. I didn't even think about that since it has been 2 years and I feel they probably don't care at this point. I will contact them and thank you for reminding me that I should use my school as my resource. I just need to start in the right direction. I don't know how it goes, if I should retest in a compact state since Az is one or can I test anywhere and won't have issue transferring back to Az. I wish I have the money for refresher course but I don't and every penny counts. I'm going to pass this time but will prepare all the way.

I started on uworld too but wasn't able to finish. I bought it 2 wks before I tested and thought I could finish in that time na didn't. I liked it as well it looks like the nclex and I epwas studying from the rationales. I wish it wasn't expensive. These nclex review materials are money making businesses since they know we will buy them. I'm a sucker for one í ½í¸³ I also have the remar quick facts. Sadly, that didn't hit my nclex questions. Good on content though. This time, I will stick to what I have like the Saunders, lacharity, and hurst. I have a lot of books and for some reason it doesn't engage me no matter how hard I try to read. I might have to hit it old school and start with my index cards again. I dont know but I hope I figure it out soon, time is a waste. Good luck

Hello Maja3699 so what are you doing now to prepare for nclex? Anything different? I wish you luck because we didn't graduate nursing school for nothing right. I wish I New which states I could apply to take nclex. Someone mentioned NY and Texas. I'm trying for Texas since it's closer to Az. Need to call them first to make sure I meet their criteria. I don want to send an app and fees then not eligible. Fees are non refundable, can't throw money away. Let me know what you plan on doing. Wish you the best and thanks for dropping a note.

This gives me hope. Your friend sounds amazing and Thank you for taking the time to post. With nclex, It's either you pass or you don't. I had classmates that skim through their notes and pass like nothing while I'm highlighting, taking notes, post it's everywhere, different books and online materials . It's a whole new world with nclex and it's not like the real world. I need to train myself to think like nclex and mostly control my anxiety. Of course no one wants to be an unsafe nurse that is absurd. But...I feel defeated at times. I'm still hopeful that I can Overcome this. If I can start the process of submitting my application to test in another state then I will be prepared this time. I'm going to change how I study and build my content area. I'm tired of buying these nclex study materials. I'm going to stick with hurst, la charity, and Saunders. If anyone has something to add that will benefit my study plan.....pls share. There is no study plan for repeat test takers unless you purchased Kaplan or hurst and completed everything. You have to figure out on your own which sucks. No one wants to retest as it is. I have read so many posts but haven't found a tailored study plan. I keep reading posts and it says find what works for you....well... I don't know anymore since I've used so many study materials.

@kj2311 I just took my exam in April. I have before November 2017 to retake or I have to reapply and pay $500 again . Since it has been 2 years since graduating I'm required to take a refresher course in Az. I just don't have $2K

@katrocks congrats í ¼í¾ˆ. I'm super happy to hear you are finally an RN. I can't imagine what you have gone through. I did hurst through my nursing program 2 years ago and will go over my hurst content book again. I also have text anxiety believe it or not. It's hard to explain and I contemplate in my head on the answers. I need to learn how to focus and answer questions with strategies and having a solid foundation on content. I'm so tired of studying and missing out on life. I'm not asking for the world but it seems everything is on hold because I can't pass. I continue to be an LPN and i feel that LPNs are not given credit that we are nurses too. Limited on the scope of practice but functions under an RN/physician etc. I can't afford the remediation/refresher courses so I prefer to take the exam out of state. I will have to pay the fee to transfer back if I'm destined. And I will use the earplugs as stress balls í ½í¸Š Thank you

@rtbml thank you and I'm glad you understand where I'm coming from. The first time I took the exam I didn't study content thinking I just graduated so I remember everything.....wrong! I just did nclex style questions on Kaplan but didn't go over my weak areas. I took the exam and knew I failed. I didn't know my content and felt like once I got the answer wrong the CAT was giving me similar questions related to the ones I didn't know. I took a long break after failing the exam and decided to try again. I work full time M-F 8-5pm. I studied 2 hrs a day m-f and 6 hrs the weekend. Honestly it was hard to dedicate study time when you have a family. It's little things like having meals ready and getting things done and cleaned plus errands that sometimes no one else will do. To top it off I'm the only one working full time and my husband is part time at a car wash. He is having a hard time finding a job. We just bought the house we were renting because the owners were going to sell and we had no other choice and no where else to go. We were forced to buy so now I have to have my job and I'm having a hard time finding 12 hr shifts so I can study more. I currently work as an LPN. Been an LPN for 4 years. I have worked in all the fields except prison I will not do. And let me say it is sad in Arizona because they don't hire LPNs in hospitals. It's rare they hire LPNs in hospitals and is far from my city. Mostly LPNs work in Home Health, corrections, clinics and nursing rehabilitation facilities, the majority. I tried uworld and loved it but I only did it for 2 wks. I found out about this when I was close to nclex test date but I did it anyway. I will use this again. I'm going to focus on content. I started a study plan and had a Calendar but for some reason i don't study consistently because I'm so tired after work. I wish I had a straightforward study plan to follow. But everyone is different and I need to find what works.

Hello @avidhunter3 thank you for the positive feedback. It is really sad sometimes how us repeat test takers are put down. I have read many posts on here just trying to find help. Do you know if I have to go to Texas to take the exam or how is the process?

@niorock you said you applied in NY to retake the board, are you located out of NY? Does that mean you have to take the test in NY or can you take in your state? I would like to know more on how you went about to apply. Sorry for all the questions. Pls in need of guidance here. Any help is appreciated. I wish you all the best. I know we can do this. TIA

Hello there, I know this is a late post but in need of help. I graduated the nursing program in Arizona 2015. I took NCLEX-RN twice and failed:(. I have bad test anxiety too. The 1st time I didn't prepare to study well thinking I got this since I just graduated so everything is fresh in head.....wrong! The 2nd test I studied on and off about 2 mos and buckled down on last month before exam date. I used la charity PDA didn't do all the book, used nclex mastery app every day then found u world 2 weeks before exam. I finished with u world I love how it looks like the nclex but only did 1000 Qs didn't get to the assessment 1 and 2. I was nervous in the beginning of the exam and halfway through I felt ok and my exam shut off at 155 felt fine. But I was wrong, I paid for 2 day results and said fail. I was angry at myself and embarrassed. I felt stupid and told myself nclex said I'm not a safe nurse. I'm still upset why I graduated nursing school but can't pass the board. My journey is not done until I pass. I'm broke and can't afford the refresher course. I read that you take NCLEX-RN in a different stat. I'm curious on that because mine expired and has been 2 yrs since I graduated. In Az a refresher course is required and passed to retake nclex. If anyone knows how I can go about on this would be greatly appreciated. Which states can I retake NCLEX-RN without taking a refresher course. Which states can I take exam? Do I travel to that state to take exam? Thank you in advance and please no negative comments. I have been through enough.

@Mavrick BSN RN, I appreciate your input but you did not give info about my question. I'm sorry if I said graduated an RN....pardon me but as a licensed RN you know what I mean. I should have said graduated from the nursing program. Yes I'm not a licensed RN and thanks for dropping a bomb I already feel defeated as it is. @ProperlySeasoned BSN/RN I'm not resisting the refresher course, I just don't have the money. I just need Advice from anyone who knows more about this situation than I do. I'm having a hard time finding an RN preceptor as well. I have to put time and money in this. The AZ BON has a list of approved RN refresher courses. I found South Dakota and is the lowest cost so far but If I could retake nclex in another state without a refresher course then is Practical and cheaper. Please no negative comments. For people that didn't fail NCLEX-RN twice you have no idea so spare me the negativity. It is difficult already and I have lost so much including my home since I had to quit because I wanted to focus in the nursing program. Everyone is different and each of us has our own path but please I don't need to hear negative replies. Thank you kindly
