How many jobs have you had in your career?
Before coming an RN, I worked at the same job for 10 years, I got too comfortable. I finally decided to go back to school and get my RN License. -My first job was a organ transplant coordinator for 6 months, left because my hospital closed. Despite offers to go with the same doctors to a new location, I opted out to go work on the floor for 12hrs shifts instead of 8hr shifts. I wanted flexibility. -2nd job was a Medsurge/Telemetry nurse 8 months. Left because I felt like I wanted to learn more and wanted more hands on. -3rd job ICU, which I love, but I just recently received an amazing offer in a magnet hospital with great benefits, pay and retirement pension. I plan to stay in ICU per diem and do my new job full-time. I am eager to learn in this new field. Obtaining my BSN has opened endless opportunities for me. I am always open to career advancement and hands-on experience. For that reason, I don't believe in settling. I am out to find the best job I can possibly get and feel like I don't live to work, but work to live.

Lacc Nursing Spring 2018
Hey there! I would go get the shot first and ask to see if there is a following series of shots or just one shot. If there is only one, I would show proof that I just received it, they should honor that. I think Varicella is ok with just the shot. I wasn't immune to Hep B, which is a big requirement when you're working in health care so I received the vaccine and then I repeated the titer. If you would like to be 100% sure, call the nursing department after the holiday and ask to see if the vaccine is enough. Let me know if i could be of any more help! :) Happy Holidays!

Lacc Nursing Spring 2018
Hey there, no worries, I am happy to help! Just make sure to pass on the tips to your future classmates. There are pros and cons about the program. So far, my classroom teachers and clinical professor have been very caring, educational and supportive. Our class is cohesive and support and help one another. The cons is that the program schedule is a little disorganized and it can feel a bit overwhelming at times. Nothing to discourage anyone to avoid this school, you'll just learn to be flexible. So far, overall, I feel like the positive outweighed the negatives. Let me know if I can be of help with anything else. :)

Yes, I am in the program already. There are not any restrictions when it comes to your clinical items. You may purchase a stethoscope of your choice. Don't forget to also grab a pair of bandage scissors and a light pen. I would also purchase a sturdy clipboard and lots of pens! Happy shopping!

Lacc Nursing Spring 2018
Hey! Just wanted to mention something in regards to the medical packet. Go get your physical, TB shot, flu shot, MMR, VZV, Hep B titers that say you're immune, Dtap shot if you haven't received any recently. I had to wait until I got my packet(last minute) and then I was stressing bc I was showing that I wasn't immune to some titers and I had to get shots and then redo the titers to prove I was immune. I wish someone from a previous semester would've told me so I could've been proactive! So I'm just letting you guys know! Oh, the tb test has to be a two-step, meaning that you get a tb shot and check it in 2 days and then repeat it again the following week(yes! Tedious! But required). Long story short! If you're not willing to get the physical or shots out of the way now, at least get the titers out of the way so you can know wether your immune or need a series of shots to become immune. Please note: shots are given weeks or months apart. I hope this help! Best of luck!!

I bought the badge just in case we need it. An additional $12 doesn't hurt.

Hi guys, I know the wait is tedious, specially when its hard to get answers. I got accepted and I also received my packet. Please try to improvise and try to be ready so you wont have to cram everything last minute. I can give you a few tips for those of you that have not received your packet. 1- Have all you immunizations up-to-date such as Hep B, MMR, VZV, TDAP, yearly Influenza Vaccine and yearly TB shot. You will need physical proof so obtain a copy for your records. You may also ask your doctor to run titers on these to make sure you're really immune (specially if you can't get a hold of your immunization card). 2- Have a physical done along with your routine blood work (ask to add: UA, CBC & RPR as they are required) so it would be easier for you to get an appt for the doctor to fill-out your form later versus having to schedule a physical last minute and wait for the lab results. 3- Take a BLS certification class from American Heart Association accreditation only I hope this helps!

Lacc nursing fall 2017
Hello, first day of orientation is on August 16th and the second is on August 17.

Lacc nursing fall 2017
Hi Aerial0623, I got accepted into the program. However, I'm guessing since alternates are asked to come to orientation class and the medical packet is due by orientation class, it would be idea for alternates to have their packet as well. That's just my opinion, I could be wrong, I hope you get a confirmation soon.

Hello, I also forgot to mention that I received my medical packet through an email. If you haven't received yours, please contact the Nursing Dept.

Yes! Reserve reserve and be ready to go to orientation! Or call and ask questions! Their staff are very nice and they will answer any questions you might have.
-
Lacc nursing fall 2017
Then that settles the question! After 40 accepted students, the wait-list starts at #41!!! It wouldn't be logical for them to ask for you to come to orientation and waste money in the classes if you don't have high chances of getting in!! :)

Hello all, I received the letter from LACC today as well. It states that I must confirm and hold my space by Thursday, June 15th. It also says that I will have a medical packet sent to me once I confirm my spot. I was beginning to feel anxious about the wait and not knowing when we would start the semester. The first day of class is August 28th. :)

Hi guys, I wouldn't lose hope just yet. Not everyone that got selected will pull through. A lot of people apply to a lot of programs and get more than one acceptance. There is a chance that people will drop last minute and you can get a chance to get in after all. Stay positive so good things come your way! :)
