Diabetic Educators: Structuring and Tracking
Does anyone here track the Glucose levels for their organization? I am attempting to trend the glucose levels on my unit and the adjoining unit and trend if the levels reading too high or low has been addressed. Does anyone have a spreadsheet that could guide me on what to include?

How high have you titrated levophed?
If the fluids did not work then I would only titrated up to 30mcg/min then if does not work add another pressor such a vasopression, if that doesn't work add Neo-Synephrine if that does not work, dopamine then as a last resort and epinephrine drip.

Does your ICU have techs or aids?
16 Bed unit in Trauma hosp in an urban area. Census depends on if we get 1 or 2 tech. No clerks at night. Tech do ECG, Glucose and assist with complete care for pt., accompying nurse to CT scans and set up rooms for new admission. If you have a tech with a good attitude they may go get your meds from pharmacy(non-narcotic) or blood products from lab or run blood work to lab.

ICU Staffing Ratio & (Floating icu nurses)
Hi all I work in a combined MICU/SICU/Trauma unit. I' m just wondering what the typical staffing ratio for your units are. If you are given tech and if staffing pull your ICU nurses to other floors, including Med/Surg. This situation has been happening quite a bit in my unit where they pull our nurse from ICU to CCU, Stepdown, Tele and recently Med/Surg. Also quite often we are only given 1 tech or none. To make matters worse, they pull a nurse sometimes as many as 3 of our nurse at one to to staff other units and leave our unit short. Normally we get 2pt to 1 nurse ratio but have been getting 3:1 lately. To compound the situation, my hospital is the only trauma hospital in the county and we getting some crazy S--T. mostly at night which is the shift I work. What are your thoughts??

Zero Confidence and Scared! eeek!!
Dont worry! Confidence will come with time. I started in ICU as a new grad 11 months ago and I felt the same way. My advice is to try to develop a routine that works for you and be as organized as possible. You can carry around a cheat sheet of short where you write pertinent info about each pt. at the start of your shift. With the you will get more comfortable. You will always have days where u feel super confident and days when you feel like you still dont know anything. If you do your best each day you will be fine. Good luck

Best place for Handover
I find the the best place for the handover is at the pt.'s bedside. If the pt is sharing a room then do it at nurses station but check on the pt. with the outgoing nurse. I find that many times a nurse will endorse something and when you get to the pt.'s room you find something completely different. This is a good way to cover yourself.

UMDNJ vs Rutgers RN-BSN program
I live in Hudson county and have an Associates in Science in conjuction with my RN so I have over 60 credits and I think most would transfer. I want a program that is short and preferrable year round so I can finish quicker. I know Felician has a fast track program but its kind of expensive.

Does anyone have any feedback on either of these programs. ie. How long it takes to graduate, clinicals, instructors. I am currently applying to UMD and have already been accepted to rutgers. I need to let rugters know my decision by May 1. thanks

New Grad needs a JOB!!
Yeah!!! I got a job. I email and all my classmates from nursing school to find out if they were having any luck with job hunting. One of them went on a interview got hired. She told me they were still looking for nurse and gave me the nurse managers email address. I email my resume and she contacted me the same day and granted me an interview the following day. She offered me the job on the spot. I guess I got lucky. You should try to reach out to your classmates and see if you can get some leads from them. good luck
