Houston Residencies Summer 2019!!
As long as you pass, the board of nursing website should have you as an official RN with a license number within 2-5 days depending on what day of the week you took and passed your exam. I took it on a Thursday and found out I passed on a Saturday and my name was on the website by Tuesday.

On their page at the bottom is a place that says returning job seekers. If you set up an account it’ll take you to your log in and in there you can check job applications and other positions you’ve applied for.

They are not going to judge you on your choice of clothes at orientation ( I was worried about the same thing for mine). You're going to be there for quite a few hours so I would suggest something casual but comfortable. And take a sweater because it can get really cold in the buildings!

It was like $13 but that's added to the package they sell you.

No, the Id picture for central is taken on day of orientation (another thing they charge for).. North campus lets us use our school IDs.. I don't know what they do with the passport pics.

The clinicals start on the second 8 weeks of the semester. They are 12 hours and they can be on any day of the week.

The uniforms for north are about $50 per set. You can buy as many as you want. They are different from central. There's two types of tops, one blue for class and one white for clinical. At north you can buy everything separate (stethoscope, shoes, watch) so you can look for the best price but the nursing bag must be bought through the school (the bag will be used for nursing skills)

So far pharm had been the only 16 week class, everything else has only been 8.

You'll find a way to learn content of each class as you go. If anything, I suggest getting familiar with nursing math calculations (you can google it or find videos on YouTube), knowing your math conversions, maybe try to learn your lab values and what they mean if they are high or low and review nursing school test questions on like quizlet or purchase an nclex study book like Saunders to review the material.

Yes, I was initially going to Central but got offered a spot at North. North Campus is so much closer to me so that's why I wanted to go there. Honestly I love the North Campus because of the distance of course, and the cohort is so much smaller and the teachers are awesome and it really feels like they are there to help us succeed. But I have heard great things about central as well from other students and that program has been around longer so Im sure the teachers there are great too!

Yes, second semester we had Pharm 16 weeks and med surg and mental health 8 weeks each. Working is definitely doable, just make sure to manage your time wisely :)

The first semester we were in class Monday through Thursday but the hours were different. Some days we were there until 1:30 others until 11:30. the second semester we were only in school 2 days of the week and one day for clinical. There are no evening classes, at least at north. so far for the rest of the program, from what I have seen, it'll continue to be the same of only 2 days in school and 1 day at clinical.

I think with A&P it was more about memorizing the information and taking a test asking you about a specific location or function but with the nursing program the questions are more about how much you comprehend the material and what should be done in a certain situation. The material itself isn't difficulty but it's so much info at once that it may feel overwhelming. I would definitely recommend looking at examples of nursing school tests online or check out a book at the library so that you know what kind of questions will be asked because that was certainly something to get used to for me personally.

I don't know how many alternates but there is definitely a good chance to get in if you're selected as an alternated just make sure you send the response as soon as you can that you want to be considered as an alternate. I actually got put as an alternate at north and got accepted at central but then got called by north to accept my alternate a week after I had attended orientation at central so that's why I know about both.. at north we did not have to spend any money and everything was more relaxed. There's a certain place that's used for uniforms but besides that you can purchase other items elsewhere, which is great because you want to find the best price possible.

Has anyone taken microbiology and physiology in the same semester?

Congratulations to all who have been accepted! For those going to central be ready to buy uniforms and nurse bag at orientation. You may be required to even buy your stethoscope there so don't buy one before. I currently attend the north campus and for their orientation they mainly gave us info on rules and financial aid as well as where to buy your uniforms and some info on the books.. I believe north was only accepting between 35-40 on this term. If there's anything I can help answer I'll be glad to í ½í¸ Congrats again and good luck!!!

That happened to most of us for the last cohort. You can call the secretary that's assigned to you depending on your last name. She might tell you to give it a few more days until your name is cleared by BON or wait until orientation. I remember I went on the last week of the month and the next week I received my cards in the mail. I believe they send them out certain days a month. I would keep trying to set the appointment at least once a day. If it hasn't let you by Friday go ahead and give the school a call and see what they tell you.

When you get accepted into the program the school sends your name to the BON. The school will give you a code to use when you are scheduling the appt. sometimes if your name isn't in the BON system as a student, it may not allow you to schedule the appt with Identogo. If you have not officially been accepted, you will not receive any paperwork from the school until they send you an official acceptance letter. If you're on the alternate list you do have a good chance of getting in because many of the people accepted will decline because they may have gotten into another program. Good luck to those who made it in!

For those who went to the orientation for the central campus on Monday and had to pay for uniforms and supplies, if you were accepted somewhere else and are giving up your spot at sjc, you have 10 days to cancel your order from career uniforms. I cancelled mine on Tuesday because I got into a campus closer to home. The only thing they are keeping is the charge for the ID.

Thanks for clarifying that Caseyblum. I was also told through email to wait till after orientation.

Yes, so, I understood that the physical is due within the 6 weeks prior to the first day of class. They probably want it to be as recent as possible. The letter says that our names were submitted to the BON and that we should receive either an outcome letter or a blue card. I haven't received anything yet but maybe it'll come in in the next 4 four days. I didn't understand if based on what we receive if we still need to do the IdentoGo. I'm trying not to stress about it to much and probably will just wait for orientation on Monday to get clarifications. Still be sure to take copies of your driver's license, insurance card, social security card, a passport size pic and take immunization records and titer results just in case.

From what I understood, you have to have the titers for hep B, hep C, MMR and varicella regardless if you had the immunizations because that's how it'll show your immunity to the disease. There is no immunization for the hep C so you only need the titer for that one.
