Hi jaccckie, I applied for Fall 2017 and was accepted but decided to commit to another program. I applied with a 4.0 in nursing pre-reqs and a 3.9 undergrad GPA. Hope this helps and good luck, this is a great program!

Yeah there's a bit of a populist attitude which I can sort of understand but I don't think it helps the profession and could contribute to why the general public seems to view nursing as not intellectually challenging or stimulating -- I routinely get told "but you're too smart to just go to nursing school/become a nurse! You should be a doctor!" And I also remember that controversy when one or more of the hosts of The View made fun of a beauty contest participant's job as a nurse. I think there's still a view of nursing as being for people who are too stupid to get into med school or if female as a means to land a doctor husband or something. It's really insulting and untrue.

I got the email and was able to sign up for it. I think it's limited to 20 students. The last in person admitted students day that I know of was on May 10th. There's supposed to be some more virtual ones so they'll probably send out more emails for those when the time comes to rsvp.

Would love to have you as a future classmate, Nursegirl94, but no one would fault you for choosing the less expensive program at Wagner either. Believe me, I'm still having mini panic attacks on the regular about how much all this is going to cost.

Hey browneyes91, I heard it's not hard and that the hardest section on it is the science one, it's A&P heavy and supposedly will ask at least one question about every major system so maybe review A&P if you don't feel too comfortable about it. I was advised not to buy Kaplan's official entrance assessment prep book -- I was told that it has quite a bit of chem and physics which aren't on the exam, and not enough A&P. As for the math section -- review conversions, dilutions, that kind of stuff. I think it's supposed to be pretty basic math and I heard that we're allowed a calculator (I don't actually know if this is true though, that sounds like it would make it too much of a gimme). I don't think we need to get too worried about it or prepare much for it -- NYU just uses it to see where everyone is at before starting and what areas people need help on so they can focus in on that a bit more during the program. Some schools make acceptance to their programs contingent on getting a certain score or above on the Kaplan entrance assessment, NYU doesn't do that.

Okay I've calmed down and am less bummed now. Hopefully it's just a glitch in their system or they're backed up and if enough people ask, they'll realize that there are quite a few people who have not received these emails with a lot of important information in them and they'll get it taken care of.

How do employers decide who to hire if, hypothetically, there are several candidates vying for a nursing job and they all passed the NCLEX and can do the job? GPA? Personality? Something else given that what school the candidates did their nursing program doesn't matter? Hypothetically, if I've passed the NCLEX (not the case haha, I haven't even started nursing school yet!) and I can do the job, what should I work on that will set me apart and help me secure the job compared with other qualified candidates? I've heard there's no longer a nursing shortage, in many areas and cities there is a surplus, so I'm already nervous about job hunting.

Or RSVPing for Orientation! I didn't even know the orientation date had been set already! Or when to RSVP for CPR training. Or that we have to take some Kaplan assessment test and the date we're supposed to show up for it. And the criminal background check, and like a million other things we have to do contained in those emails NONE of which I was informed of. I can't believe this. So much side-eyeing right now.

That is ridiculous. I paid my deposit on 04/27 and haven't received ANY of those emails. Not a single one. I'm actually really unhappy right now with their lack of communication after taking $500 of my money. ETA: Thank you very much, andreahm, for sharing that info. The amount of information in those emails that I had no idea about is staggering to me. I'm very upset right now that I've haven't received any of this information and would've continued to be totally in the dark for who knows how long had you not posted this. I'm just...wow, words fail me. Btw, I was able to other day to set up my NYU email account just on my own through randomly clicking through links on the main webpage and I've been checking my account religiously multiple times and day and still never received any of this information.

I paid my deposit last Thursday and I haven't received any further communication from the school except my financial aid award which was posted to my Albert account.

Hey guys, hope you're all having a nice weekend! Does anyone know if NYU offers us an NCLEX prep course or are we on our own when it comes to studying and preparing for it?

Me! I got an email from Federal Student Aid saying that my FAFSA had been processed and sent on to schools this past Monday, but I still haven't gotten my fin aid package. I don't know how long it usually takes.

When you say a lot of the classes are in podcast form, do you mean they are not held in person but rather online? I had heard that all the classes were recorded and made available as podcasts for students to use/if they had to miss class, but do you guys know if any of the classes are only online and if so, how many? Personally, paying that much for the program I do not want a lot of online classes if any at all.

Has anyone solidified their housing plans yet? I'm waiting to find out my financial aid award (I filled out the FAFSA late so I just got a notification today that it's been processed and sent on to the school) although I'm not expecting it to be very much. Also, when you click on Admission Decision on Albert, what does the Effective Date mean? Is that the date that you are supposed to Accept/Decline? In my decision letter it said that I had two weeks from the date of my decision letter but the actual letter is not dated although I received it on 04/17.

Congrats RyanK94, glad to hear it! Did anyone put your parents' financial information on your FAFSA? I was deemed an independent student but it said on the FAFSA that if you're going for a law or health professional program (and it specifically mentioned med school and nursing school) you might want to put in your parents info anyway. I don't know if I should...my parents are not well off but I don't know if it would help to put their info in since I'm not financially dependent on them. @js03, I was planning on going to the May 10th one and then I found out I got scheduled to present my final project for one of my classes on that day so I can't go. I wish they had a date after the spring semester is over for those of us still doing pre-reqs. :/

If not, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and everyone else still waiting that there will be good news either tomorrow or Monday! :)

Hi cinsim, I haven't decided yet, I'm actually still waiting to hear back from one school and waiting to hear back about financial aid awards, but maybe you can contact UMASS Amherst and ask them if they can help with roommate matching for the ABSN program, especially since you're going to be out of the country this summer?

I think the clinicals are at two sites -- NYU Langone down the street from school and Maimonides in Brooklyn

Is there a facebook page specifically for Simmons ABSN 2017? I tried doing a facebook search but only found one for Direct Entry FNP.

I doubt you'll be the oldest person. I think I heard the entering cohort at NYU will be 150-200 people so I'm sure there will be a pretty varied age range. And if it helps, I'm closer in age to you and I am not straight out of undergrad. I worked for a few years before deciding to go back and do my pre-reqs for nursing school.

I think that's a positive sign! The frustrating thing is it slows down the process.

Hey guys, does NYU notify us if one of our pre-reqs doesn't fulfill the requirements? I took Human Development Through the Lifespan (PSYC 218, 3 credit hours, in person not online) is that the same thing as Developmental Psychology? Anybody else take a Human Development lifespan course instead of one specifically entitled Developmental Psychology? Should I email NYU and double check that my Human Development course is acceptable?
