  1. I think that seems pretty excessive to write the date on each individual alcohol swab package, but the office I currently work in has us check on supplies at the end of the month. We go through all of our supplies and medications making sure we dispose of expired stuff.
  2. I also did not pass in the ADN program and unfortunately that happens to the best of us. I don't necessarily feel like a failure, because I know how hard it is. I was able to transfer over to the LPN program in October and skip out of two of the classes which is because its equivalent to what I had already done in the ADN program. Anyways, I did so much better in the LPN program and will be graduating in May. If I choose to go back and try for my RN later on, I will do a bridge program. This will give me the opportunity to work as an LPN for awhile for the knowledge and experience. Works for me <3
  3. All great advice! But let me just add one more thing.... if you fail a class, you pick yourself right back up and TRY AGAIN!! Not everyone makes it all the way through without failing a class. But you can't let it keep you from your dream, from keeping you down. I am speaking from experience. If most everyone who attempts nursing school can do this, YOU CAN TOO!! Best of luck to you!!!
  4. A little about me.... I am 43 years old and a Medical Assistant for 4 years. I have knocked my work hours down to less than 15 hours a week. I am in the ADN program, and am in my second semester (for the second time) in Med Surg. I did OK up until the final last semester and was just below the percentage needed to pass. So, now I am at it again ... but it seems that I am having a hard time retaining any information. I am only 43 years old, but I honestly feel like my brain is on strike and refusing to learn anything else! I REALLY want to be a nurse, and I need to get myself out of this funk...AND FAST!!! Our next exam is on Diabetes on 9/17 and if I don't pass this exam, I will need to drop from this semester. I will take ANY advice!!
  5. I am 42 years old and just starting the RN program this month! I started as a medical assistant but a semester before graduating, I decided to start on pre-reqs for the program. I graduated with my MA certification and have been working full time for a rheumatology office. Kept doing 1-2 classes at a time to get through all of the pre-reqs and then applied for the program and was accepted. I know that most people in my group are younger, but I feel that I have an advantage because I have learned how to study smart (something I never did in my younger years!) Going in, I have a 3.75 GPA so I am sure as long as I continue to put in a lot of hard work and study time, I can do this! Best of luck to you!!
  6. I have been a medical assistant for 3 years, all of which I have been with a rheumatology office. I live in Iowa, and started out at only $10/hr. I am currently at $12.75. In my opinion, MA's don't get paid enough for all the hard work we put in. We do blood draws, flu shots, IM steroid injections, prior authorizations, prescription refills, room patients, assist physicians with joint injections and aspirations, and take care of patient phone calls. I LOVE my job and the doctors that I work for, but have decided to continue my education for my RN. I was accepted into the ADN program and starting next month :)
  7. I am starting the ADN program next month, and was lucky enough for my employer to create a part time position for me that will be completely up to me on what hours I can work. I am hoping to be able to work at least 20 hours a week. I am currently a medical assistant for a rheumatology office. They will hire a new MA for my position, and move me to basically do prior authorizations, help out if someone calls in, or basically throw me wherever they need help. I am extremely grateful that they are working with me so that I can advance in the healthcare field. Also grateful for working for a great team who supports me!
