  1. It's been years since you've posted this BCRNA. I am curious to know how things turned out for you? I would like to do both PhD and DNP. I would love to hear your most current feedback.
  2. Null, thank you for your post. I am currently applying to start the PhD program this Fall. I am very interested in health disparities in the minority (e.g. racial, cultural, geographical) communities. After obtaining my PhD, I would like to go back from either an MPH or DNP (my school's DNP has a focus on public health). Do you have any advise for me? I live in Texas and would like to be in a position to also provide care to those in need.
  3. Hi vinsmuffin, I am interested in possibly pursuing my MSN as an FNP and then going on to get my PhD, but I am concerned with my age. If it's not inappropriate, may I inquire of your age? I will be 38 soon.
  4. Hi Aubeangel704, I am considering applying for UTMB's MSN online program. I have to work full-time and was wondering what the workload has been like? How is the online compared to in class? How often are we required to visit the campus? What are some of the other pros and cons? Thank you
  5. I was recently offered a position in pre-op/phase 2 at my hospital. I was in Med-Surg, but decided to make the move. I still work MedSurg prn, but really enjoy the pre/post op position. We have a choice to do 3-12's and a 4, 4-10's, 5-8's, or 2-12's and 2-8's. It gets busy (a different kind of busy than in Med-Surg). However, I find it to be less stressful. We are off on weekends and holidays unless it is our week to be oncall. Two nurses split the holiday on-call to 6 hours a piece. I am so happy that I took a leap of faith and joined the pre-op/post team.
  6. I'm curious how you found your community health job? I am interested in community health, but haven't been able to find any in San Antonio, TX
  7. Thank you so much for this information. I really do appreciate your response.
  8. TiffyRN, how's it going at UTMB online? I live in San Antonio and am doing research on online programs.
  9. Rose Queen, MSN, RN Thank you for your reply. Did you complete your MSN online, on campus, or hybrid? Which program did you attend?
  10. Rose_Queen, MSN, RN , Did you complete it online or on campus? Which program did you attend?
  11. I am currently weighing my options and determining my next steps in advancing my degree in nursing. I would like to apply to begin the next level of education in 2018. Is anyone currently working full-time and completing a BSN-MSN online? If so, are you going part-time or full-time? What specialty are you preparing for? What program are you enrolled in? How's it going?
  12. Yes, exactly...this is what I would like to know! Thank you for all of your replies. It has opened my understanding to various options.
  13. Thank you so much for all of your replies. I too have a customer service background and am learning how to politely "cut the conversations short" so that I can focus on caring. I am learning from the seasoned nurses how to give quality care even when we don't have the quantity of time available. It is refreshing to hear from both experienced and new nurses. Thank you all again
  14. Hello All, I am looking to obtain my PhD in nursing. Although teaching is part of my passion, I would still like to be involved in the clinical setting as well. Can those of you with a PhD comment on your experiences? Do you work in the clinical setting? I am open to hearing from those with a DNP as well.
  15. Thank you so much for posting this. I am a new nurse in MedSurg and feel so slow and incompetent. I have only been on my own for 1 week. Already, there have been days that I feel as though I've made a mistake and days that I love it. I work with an amazing team, but feel as though I am not as competent as the other nurses, including the new ones. I hope that I get better and soon!
