  1. The first bit is not always what you may expect. Hang in there. Nursing IS changing sheets and cleaning up bm amongst other skills. Use this time to show willingness and competance, also to show how well you can interface with all staff. As a cna you can be the eyes and ears for nurses which shows assessment and communication. CNA isnt what you are in school for but these are facets of being an RN. Once you move on to other skills it may make more sense to you.
  2. I am a new LPN. I was given 3 day shifts for training and 2 evenings. I requested 2 more evenings as my training nurse said both shifts were crazy and not sufficient for orientation. I havent heard back about the evening shifts. I just worked my first solo day shift. It was a bit nerve wracking but I felt reasonably good overall about it. Do things safely ask questions and document. Then see what worked for you and what didnt. I work again tomorrow and that is my plan. Each day is an opportunity to learn and improve. Perfection is not my first goal. Learning and improving and building my confidence are my goals. I have 30 residents to care for and I am the only nurse on, with a DOC just a text or call away. Good luck!
  3. I am 52 and I take my licencing exam in 3 weeks. GO FOR IT!!
  4. Personally I don't think leggings are appropriate for professional work wear. Cute and comfortable for at home and in the gym where a professional appearance is not necessary.
  5. I second this with an added comment. Nursing homes also have clients with mental health issues. It may not be your first choice but some time in a facility plus perhaps volunteering with mental health outreach programs may help you attain your goal. Good luck.
