RN to BSN Pre-reqs
Who has taken the literature Pre-req?? Just wondering if I should go through UTA or a community college like TCC? I’m so not looking forward to having to take it. How many books must we read through out the class?

Excelsior ADN to UTA BSN
Has anyone gone through Excelsior College for your ADN then UTA for your RN to BSN? I’m wondering how the credits transfer and if there were many classes your had to retake? I can’t seem to find anything that will give me an idea of how Excelsior credits transfer at all

New RN in Texas and LVN license still verifiable
I found a RN job and am starting the beginning of February. I feel like this could be a messy situation like y’all said and honestly think your LVN license should become inactive once your RN license is active.

New RN in Texas and LVN license still verifiable
I just passed the NCLEX and my RN is verifiable on the BON site. I am looking for an RN job and currently still at my LVN job. When I notified my practice manager of my valid RN license and asked who I needed to notify to have it updated in the system I was told that no one needed to be notified because I was still going to be working under my LVN while at my current office. I have not found anything on the BON site regarding this and have a call into them but am waiting the 5-7 days to get a callback but this does not sound correct to me. I know according to the state that I am held accountable to the highest level of education/licensure so I would think it would need to be documented that I have my RN license. Does anyone know anything about this? I don't trust my manager for multiple reasons and am trying to cover my ***.

New GN trying to figure out best path
I was hoping to get some advice. I have been an LVN for 11 years and just finished my ADN program and will be taking boards end of November or December. I live in the Dallas Fort Worth Area where a majority of the hospitals are magnet and want RN-BSN. I currently work for a large network of hospitals and offices that offer tuition reimbursement as long as you agree to work 1 year after they pay you. I am wanting to get in the NICU somewhere but can't at my current company being an ADN. I'm facing the dilemma of staying with my current company and working in a UCC or specialist office but getting reimbursed or hopefully finding a level 2 or 3 NICU that will take a new ADN and start working my way up to a level 4 once I go back for my BSN.

Excelsior and Texans
My CPNE application was accepted December 2017. I was offered and accepted the split pilot in December 2018 and had my NSL in Lubbock the end of February 2019. Unfortunately my nerves got the best of me and I failed:( (FYI the Lubbock NSL in the Winter is freezing! Like miserable freezing! It’s in the basement of one of the covenant buildings and I’m assuming they have no heat for whatever reason. They have a couple space heaters that don’t do much and the CA & CEs literally walked in with gloves, scarfs, blankets, etc. The shivering did not help my already shaking hands or my concentration.) I was offered my NSL retest in May 2019 in Lubbock and passed quickly with no repeats that time (much warmer too). Both times the CA & CEs were awesome. They really do want you to pass and even gave head nudge hints when possible. I was given my PCS assignment At Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY in middle of September. I had been offered multiple cancellation dates To get done sooner but didn’t feel ready. Again I cannot say anything but wonderful Things about the CA and CEs. The CEs pick your patients and decide what AOCs you need to do and they make it challenging but not impossible by any means. They too help out with hints when possible. I had an adult as a sub for my pedi patient. Another student did get a 14yo for her pedi and was told they try to give older kids since younger ones condition can change so quickly. The patients know you are a student also and will work with you easily. Know your critical elements and you are good. Regarding documentation, be so so so specific about everything. My CE with my first PCS was beyond forgiving and helpful with my documentation. She could have easily failed me but knows how nervous you are especially on the first one and did all she could to help. And after that one I felt so bad/thankful that I literally wrote every detail of what was said and done and didn’t have anything big but compliments on my documentation the rest of the weekend. Passed with no repeats thanks be to god. the weekend is is beyond exhausting and stressful. I didn’t take anyone with me for that reason and literally came back to the hotel Saturday and Sunday and took a 3-4 hour nap...it’s that mentally and emotionally exhausting. Reviewed notes the nights before and the mornings of but no marathon study sessions the days leading up to the weekend and that weekend. I did ATL with Sherrie and Greg to prepare and don’t know how I would have done it without them. I did the online workshop and the videos were more than helpful. I highly recommend using a study aid outside of Excelsior.

I'm baaaaaccccckkkkkk
Happy to see your back. I followed your cpne post and was so upset for you when I heard and to see you go. Sometimes disconnecting is the best medicine bc I see now how the cpne totally takes over your life (I'm on the wait list now). Would love to hear your story when your ready to share and of course any tips you have.

Older kids and shots
I just began working in a pediatricians office in January and my experience before includes GI (18 & up) and Allergy & Asthma. Does anyone have any tips for helping with older kids who are getting shots? right now is usually 11 year olds who are the most troublesome but I know going into fall and flu shots will bring more older kids that aren't as easy to handle as the little ones. Most of the time the parents do help but there is a point where you can't hold them down anymore. What can be said to reassure them that it will only hurt for a second and without sounding rude that they have to get the shots before they leave.

Getting ready for excelsior CPNE
Kristy_p Is the prep course on location or something you can do at home? I'll be testing in the next 6-8 months (estimate) and definitely feel like I need something like this. Also, did you do the 1 day skills class through Excelsior? Was it helpful?

Percussion question
I am currently an LVN and RN student through Excelsior. Since becoming an LVN I have worked in an office setting only, Allergy & Asthma and now GI. Physical assessments are not something I do on a regular basis and want to know how often percussion is actually done by the RN? Percussion makes me quite nervous since there are many different sounds, etc. The physician I work for does it during every assessment and I know will be willing to let me observe and likely practice. Thanks in advance

Excelsior and Texas - All good now
So good to know especially since I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel in the ADN program. I'm slightly embarrassed to say I didn't know there was a chance of it changing recently (my reading extent outside of my school, helping my son and what I must do for my job is non-existant these days). Where do you keep up with your info? ANy specific websites, newsletters, etc?
