  1. Thank you everyone for the encouraging words! I'm still a little nervous and worry that I'm making the right decision (the pay cut being one of the biggest factors), but I know I won't know for sure unless I take a chance. My current patient load of up to 19 can be overwhelming. Even though it's inpatient psych, having that many with a portion of them being active detoxers can be overwhelming. So the thought of the 5 patient load average on the new unit I was offered seems wonderful, although I know the acuity will be high. I will be sure to keep everyone updated. Thank you again!
  2. Hello everyone. I'm conflicted and just need to get some things out to someone, anyone. I've been a nurse now for 7 years. 6 1/2 as an LPN and 6 months now as an RN. I've worked primarily long term care, rehab, and psych. I've been on my current unit for 6 months now and do not feel as though it's a good fit. Started off in adolescent inpatient psych and moved into adult inpatient psych with no fulfillment. Prior I was in geri-psych for 2 years. I say all this because I'm about to make another big change and feeling nervous about making the right decision. I have yet to start orientation but I was offered and accepted a position with a different hospital network for a neuro med surg unit. The downside is that this position will be $5/hr less in pay, but seems challenging and interesting. I'm worried about making the decision to leave my network, taking the pay cut, and it not being what I envisioned it to be. I feel like a brand new nurse with my RN and wish I was staying in the place I started, but I know how unhappy I am. The nurse to patient ratio is sometimes too much with the acuity I work with currently at times. I want a smaller patient load and to utilize my skills while I gain new ones. I suppose I'm trying to justify this change I'm about to make. Anyone else want to share stories of confliction of a new position that turned into a successful change? Thanks.
  3. Curious on answers to this as well. I'm from Indiana and would love to move to either Anchorage, Alaska or somewhere in Oregon. Would need some relocation assistance myself, but not sure how it all works. Hope you're able to get some responses and good luck to you!
  4. Thank you for the welcome! I'm looking forward to my new role and being an active advocate for the patients I encounter.
  5. I just have to first say how incredibly happy I am to see the site up and running again. Thank you allnurses! lol I recently graduated from an LPN to ASN program and interviewed for a position on an inpatient youth behavioral unit last week within my current hospital system. Yesterday I received a phone call offering me a position contingent on me successfully passing boards. I am hoping to schedule the NCLEX in the next few weeks. I had left a different hospital system where I was working in a geriatric inpatient psych unit last year that required me to float to the adult behavioral unit on occasion. I was there for two years and left thinking I wanted to pursue something more medical and I am currently on an acute rehab unit. I realize now how much my passion is in mental health and jumped at the opportunity to apply for this position. I have worked with geriatrics as well as long term care, acute rehab, and in an urgent care clinic during my career so far. However, not primarily with youth so this will be a drastic change for me. I'm both excited and nervous about this change, but the staff on the unit seems really supportive so I'm hoping all goes well. This also gives me the chance to get off 12hr night shifts and on to 8hr evenings so that was a bonus as well since my sleep schedule has been off. Here's to successful completion of the NCLEX-RN, and soon!
  6. I don't believe any of the hospitals in my area offer programs like that. The hospitals here will do tuition reimbursement, but you have to already be an employee for a certain amount of time and how much you get depends on your point status (full time or 0.8/1.0 statuses will get more versus part time employees).
  7. I work 7p-7a on a geri-psych unit. Day shift comes in at 7a. Usually after our unit safety huddle and change of shift report I clock out around 0730-0745. However, if something happens to one of my patients at 0655, I will stay behind and clean up any paperwork needed. I feel it's unfair to pass it on to the next shift since it still occurred during my shift. Or if a patient becomes agitated during change of shift, I will help the oncoming nurse to de-escalate the situation before clocking out. Generally, though, all of my documentation and shift duties are completed before the next shift arrives.
  8. Accepted at Fort Wayne!! And just an FYI, check your application status on the online application site. I didn't receive an email but saw my offer there and was able to accept it. Fort Wayne was my 1st choice. Congrats everyone! :)
  9. Hopefully we all hear some good news today!
  10. I've tried asking around but couldn't get an answer. I keep hoping it'll be sooner though!
  11. Is it bad that it hasn't even been 24hrs yet and I've already checked my email lol This will be the longest wait ever!
  12. Hello everyone! I've been lurking on this site for years and finally registered. I applied to Fort Wayne, Marion, and Muncie. I live in Fort Wayne, but it has taken me 4 years to get to this point so I'll travel if I have to in order to finish! Lol I had all A's in my pre-reqs but only scored a 70 on the TEAS, so I have 130 points. I keep hearing the transition program isn't as competitive and I sincerely hope so. I'm already a nervous wreck! Good luck everyone :)
