I am sucky in math :crying2:...but I am getting better...my teacher gave my class a site to practice some math calc problems and this one problem stumped me:eek: and the ones that followed in this format...if anyone can help me (dumb down lol) with this it would be great...Thanks!

You have available a 10mL ampule of Brevibloc (esmolol HCl) labeled 250 mg in 1 mL. 2,500 mg of Brevibloc must be prepared. How many mL of the drug should you prepare?

OR

Elavil (amitriptyline hydrocholride) is available in a 10 mL ampule labeled 10 mg in 1 mL. 30 mg of Elavil must be prepared. How many mL should you withdraw fromthe ampule in preparing the drug?

OR

1,000 mcg of colchicine must be prepared. How many mL should be prepared using a 2 mL ampule labale 0.5 mg in 1 mL?

Thank you in advance :yeah:for anyone who explains to me how to do these problems..i put a few so I can get a good idea  on this stuff...

I have a hard time writing the math equations on a message board or computer.

Do you understand how to do dimensional analysis?

If you understand how to do Dem. Analysis then it can be applied to all of these problems. Start with what you need and times it by what you have (make sure they are set up opposite to cross out any that are the same) and in the end you should have your answer. Some of these problems give more information then you need, you have to make sure you don't include that. Like problem one, you have the mg needed, you know how many mg/ml their is. That is all you need.

If I could "write" on here like a piece of paper it would be easy to show. LOL

Thank you for your help...I will try to follow what you tell me...I guess its the extra stuff in the problem that throws me off...I will do the problem and tell you my answer..thanks lol

I have had a few problems on the test was the same thing. I finally had to stop and ask myself What do I need, what do I have. Cross out the rest and got it. It can get very confusing.

Anyway, that would work.

I can try to set one up and see if it comes out.

So in this one "You have available a 10mL ampule of Brevibloc (esmolol HCl) labeled 250 mg in 1 mL. 2,500 mg of Brevibloc must be prepared. How many mL of the drug should you prepare?"

You need to know how many mL you need.

Your order is 2500 mg x 1ml = 2500

250 mg 250

The mg will cross cancel only leaving you mL left and your answer will be what you get when you solve the last division problem

Thank you sooo much for giving your time! That was really helpful!!

The stuff in bold is the stuff you need to solve the problems. Hopefully I bolded right, I just did it in my head. (I don't have any paper near me)

UGH it didn't post right. The 250 mg should be under the 1mL and under the 2500 in the equal part. So the answer would be 2500/250 which will = 10mL
