How likey is a floor to hire you PRN if you have no prior experience in that area. I'm a new nurse of 8 months working on a Spinal Cord Injury floor wanting to work PRN on an ICU, Cardiac Recovery or Hemodialysis floor. It feels so unlikely, but I want to learn. :ccc

I applaud your desire to increase your knowledge, but changes to very different specialties require an orientation/immersion period. A PRN position assumes familiarity with the specialty and provides minimal orientation.

Typically most PRN positions require 1.5-2 years of experience due to the minimal orientation that is given.
