Private care pay

U.S.A. Tennessee

Does anyone know what the salary/pay is for the private facilities like Gentiva, Maxima, or elderly homes? Just wondering if they pay better than the hospitals around Knoxville? Anybody have any knowledge?

i cant believe no one knows the answer to this? Are you all working in hospitals, someone give me a clue please!

Gentiva and Maxim Healthcare Services are both home health and staffing agencies. Are these the companies that you are referring to? If you are interested in doing staffing work in nursing homes for Maxim (don't know that Gentiva does staffing) or are interested in working in home health for either, you should just call up the offices and ask the staffing coordinator or recruiter what they are paying. Keep in mind that any agency will try to get you to work for as little as possible. I have worked for both agencies and was pretty much satisfied. However, my supervisor at Gentiva had her hourly rate of pay decreased three times while working the same case. Between the two agencies, if it were me, doing the recommending, I would recommend Maxim over Gentiva. You have to call and find out what they tell you and see if the quoted rates of pay are acceptable to you or not. Good luck.

thank you for replying! I noticed that most recuriters were friendly and forth right when giving information, however when I called Baptist the lady was not friendly and kept telling me it depends on experience; even after stating I would be a new grad?? I asked about the PRN student nurse position (pay rate) and again was told it depends on experience? Well if I am a student nurse than of course I have no hands on?? Anyway that is why I posted here, thanks

Yes, it seems that with some people, no matter what you say or do, they are rude, condescending, ignore you, or just act dense. Just keep on calling and inquiring or go in person and inquire. Get applications and start applying. You might try not pointing out to people that you will be a new grad. Just submit your application and resume and take it from there. You can talk about your experience when asked during an interview. Recruiters and staffing coordinators for agencies like Maxim and Gentiva are more prone to be a little more forthright over the phone. Good luck in finding your new position.

brendadoug, most home health agencies require at least a year of experience. I know Gentiva prefers 2 yrs but if desperate for nurses will look at less. Their pay may be a little more than a hospital's, but you have to be on call one night/wk and an entire weekend about once a month. Call begins at 5 p.m. and ends at 8 a.m.

If you're interested in working as a student, Covenant and UT med ctr have student positions. At Blount Memorial, you'd have to work as a patient care technician. Any of these offer great opportunity for experience. I know at Ft. Sanders Regional, if you're a senior student, they'll let you do just about anything except give meds (start IVs, draw labs, start Foleys, etc.)
