Presentation Topics

Hello,

I am doing my preceptorship right now and I need to offer a 20min inservice to the NICU staff...I am trying to come up with topic ideas and was wondering if you had any suggestions? Thanks for your help

Developmental care?

Developmental care is definitely one of the important basics that we can lose sight of with all of the vents, drips and other fancy stuff.

Some other ideas:

- infant security/prevention of hospital abductions

- prevention/treatment of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP)

- bereavement care for familes

- overview of HIPAA (I know, I know...)

Skin care

I've found this to be a subject that has frequently been neglected and I've also encountered a great deal of ignorance over the years. Skin is the first line of defense, and no, babies don't need a bath everyday, particularly premies. (Can I scream that? LOL.)

I agree on the skin care issue. I suggest a topic that would help the staff understand why we do what we do, something that may improve practice. If you want to go more disease specific:

TE fistulas

NEC

IVH

PPHN

Apnea of prematurity

Good Luck

Did you give the presentation yet? Prevention of enterobacter sakazakii would be another good one.

You might ask the Clinical Nurse Specialist or Nurse Educator or Nurse Manager (or whoever the heck is in charge!) if they have a topic they'd like the staff to get info on--just a thought.

Good luck!

the most improtant of the presentions is to bring something new , new informations , uptodate thing and tell us about with topic you choice and if I have something new I will help you.................. and during presention be confidented ,strong and nice ..........
