Did any of you prepare before taking AP by getting the book ahead of time and starting to study or did that not help or confuse matters?

I wouldn't mess with it before the class. Teachers have different info they want you to know. Enjoy your free time now. A&P is a challenging course which requires lots of studying and reading.

I am taking A&P for the second time, the 1st time was 11 years ago. I bought the Complete Idiots Guide to A&P. I'm reading through it before class starts. I'm also going over this website before class starts.
I'm taking it online so I feel like I need the extra preparation because I am nervous about it.

Yeah, I decided to do something that a counselor at the school I'm applying to tried to talk me out of--I'm taking, over the summer, A&P 1 in the first five weeks, A&P 2 in the second 5 weeks, and Microbiology over the whole 10 weeks.
I'm making a point to read as much as I can on both subjects (starting with A&P) before the semester starts, so I won't be overwhelmed by new info when I start the classes.

wow that's a lot to take for the summer. Best of luck to you! :)
I will be taking a&p1 over summer and i've started watching the webcasts from uc berkley to get my feet wet. also purchased the coloring books for anatomy and physiology....
i don't want to take in too much just incase the teacher teaches differently but figured it would be good to start on writing my flash cards with the bones...that will definitely be something to memorize..lol

One thing you can do is just READ the text if you know which one it is. My A&P teacher always advises us to read or at least skim what we will be doing in next class because sometimes something being even just a little familiar helps you learn it when all of the facts are presented to you in lecture.
I wouldn't really study study because like a previous poster said, different programs focus on different things and you can spend all this time memorizing, learning and studying something that your school just kind of skims over.
I was the same way you are before I started a&p and believe me, you will have plenty of studying to do once class starts so you mine as well just sit back and get some rest now!

I am taking AP beginning May. I brought an AP book, about 2 months ago, and have been studying like crazy. No matter how the professors designs the lecture, there are some things (I assume)you have to learn in AP. I have learned about cells(organelles), the systems in the body, diffusion, permeability, intracellular/extracellular fluids...ventral/dorsal cavity, veterbral column, etc... also memorized where all the organs are...and there is still MUCH to learn, but i just needed to give myself a bit of a start..plus , taking the class in the summer is condensed, so i imagine it will be intense...i don't want to feel like a complete idiot in class...just my two cents
