Hi Nursing world!
I am starting my new job in a surgical ICU in less than a month. I have almost 5 years of med surg experience. Any suggestions on how to prepare or what to review before I begin? I don't want to walk in feeling that I should have been more prepared in some way. Can anyone suggest a book or guide to go by that will help me though my first year? I'm super excited but nervous!!
Thanks!!

Can you take a critical care course in your area? Look it up and they should have classes.

My hospital has all new ICU nurses take two critical care classes that the hospital teaches. As far as books go, I suggest The ICU Book. Has a ton of good info, some that is too much for you right now but other info that is good for new ICU nurses.

This thread has been moved to the Critical Care forum with the goal of amassing more responses and feedback from our members who work in the ICU. Good luck!

Hello fellow nurses!
I was recently offered a position in the ICU, I am new to this area and was wondering if there are any online courses or resources that I can look into to help me better my skills and knowledge and provide quality care to my future patients.
Thank you in advance!

I love ICU. I am new as well but I just love all the thinking that happens about critically ill patients.
