I am working towards applying for the WGU pre-licensure program in CA. my enrollment counselor is having me get the prereqs done all over the place but yet the website states:
Consistent with California Board of Nursing guidelines, eligible Southern California students may be able to complete program prerequisites at WGU.
has anyone completed their pre-reqs t WGU? I was told the website needed to be updated and that was over 6 months ago, yet its still there
Perhaps the WGU Director will reply.

There are only two pre-req classes that can be taken at WGU, Biochemistry and Pharmacology.
The site says you must satisfy your pre-reqs at another institution and have them transferred in or if you have a bachelors or associates most of your general education will already be satisfied.
The site says
To be considered for enrollment in the program, students must have earned a bachelor’s or associate’s degree AND/OR completed the following program admissions prerequisites:
Liberal Arts and Sciences
Foundations
Language and Communications
Quantitative Literacy
Literature, Arts, and Humanities
Behavioral Science
Nutrition
Anatomy and Physiology
Clinical Microbiology
All these are your pre-requisites that must be done prior to being admitted. The school does not have the general education classes. Only the classes pertaining to the nursing program.
I am in the process of getting my sciences done, and have my general education done through my transcripts from my previous school and I am graduating from University of Phoenix November so I will have my classes done. I am looking to start if not this November for WGU then January 1st.
I am trying to find a way to get Microbiology done without paying for the lab kit but it looks like I will have no choice. I am probably going to use straighterline.com to get the classes out the way. I only need Micro and Maybe A&P unless they take the one I already have taken.
When are you looking to start?
My enrollment counselor told me as well that none of the general ed classes are offered through the school and but Biochemistry and Pharmacology which can be take in our nursing curriculum.
Good Luck on the nursing packet!

Hi ShondaJ,
Thank you for all that info. Just wanted to find out if you started the Micro Class thru Straightliner? I'm still deciding if I should take it?
I am just seeing this comment. I enrolled in both A&P 1 and 2 and Microbiology and got the lab kits but I decided to take my classes on campus after giving it a shot. I should not have bought all 3. Big Dummy I was. I have three lab kits now I won't be doing anything with.

Thanks ShondaJ, for all the info. I wanted to ask you a question about straighter line and wgn. I have most of my prereqs but I need micro and physio. I want to take them at straighterline and I wanted to ask your opinion on that. Also, did your counselor tell you about them only accepting 15 in the program?
He didn't tell me about the amount of students admitted but I know the school is contracted with Straighterline so they accept all their courses.
If you are good with independent study and can work on your own then you might be good with the courses online. For me, I am not able to focus on it with work, currently in another school and being a mom, I am just too busy and can't focus on the online courses.
They use straighterline as a recommendation to take your science courses but its not for me. I have seen alot of people say they got A's in the courses and they had no problem with them. I just can't do them myself.
Let me know if you decide to take the micro. Are you in Southern California?

Do you know how long it takes to complete the science courses through straighterline?
Its however long it takes for you to study and finish the assignments, quizzes, labs and exams. It is at your own pace.
I am in Baldwin hills, not too far from you. I have taken online classes before so it's ok. I also work and I am a mom, that's why I am choosing WGU. I'm willing to do what it takes but I am really desperate to finish my RN. Any help I welcome. Thanks
