Pregnancy considerations?

Im currently a 4th semester student, but I also work as a nurse technician at a local hospital. I just found out im pregnant, 5 weeks to be exact....what precautions do I need to be taking in this field? Since, Ill be working in clinical, as a tech, and soon as a RN. I know to take it easy, rest, etc. Im really worried about the do's and don'ts of working as a nurse while pregnant. Especially in the first trimester. Any advice would be great! Particularly, what kinds of patients should I not have contact with, lifting restrictions, any other saftey issues? OH-and I am going to talk to my OB, but I have clinical and work in the mean time, so this is more of question to get me through the next few days.

Thanks in advance!

You should ask your OB.

Sorry, Virgo's right, can't give advice. Terms of Service.

Congrats! Sorry can't give out medical advice, I would just do searches, there are hospital policies that you can view that list the dos and don'ts also, the precaution signs have on them who can't take care of pts.

Ask your OB and in the meantime make sure your instructor and charge nurse knows that you are newly pregnant. They should keep you away from any patient that is on isolation and/or a total care patient that would involve lifting. Congratulations.

Also chat with your OB about certain medications you don't want to be handling (or need to be ultra carful passing while pregnant) a few you want to be aware of. Congrats!!!!:yelclap:
