Preceptor Schedule and School

Hey everyone! I recently got hired at a large teaching hospital in my area and start August 8th. During my interview, the NM told me that after new-hire orientation and computer charting classes I will be doing 4-5 weeks of shadowing with a preceptor and will be working their schedule. I'm currently going to school (which they are aware of) and am worried about my school schedule interfering w/ my preceptors schedule. I am going to class Mon & Wed 5-8:50pm. I'll be working night shift, so I'm assuming my preceptor will be night shift as well. If he/she is scheduled to work M or W, what will they do? My classes end August 17th, so it will only be two weeks I won't be able to work on those days. How is this type of situation normally handeled?

Thanks!

Call and let them know about the time issue. I'm sure they can work something out. :)

Just out of curiosity are you in the Los Angeles area? Only curious because I am starting a new grad program same day!

Nope! I'm actually in the Phoenix area. Congrats to you though!!!

This sounds like a question for your NM. Since she is the one scheduling you, she is probably the only one who can really address your concerns.

Yeah, I will definitely be asking her. I was just curious if anyone else had been in a similar situation and how it was handeled.
