My husband was just offered a promotion which would require a relocation from Chicago to outside of Boston. What's it like out there besides the seafood? How's the job outlook? What's the housing market like out there?
Go Cubbies!
I found out it would be north of Boston near Danvers. My hubby said people in the company live all over--Boston, Salem, New Hampshire. I work in the Operating Room, which hospitals would you recommend? I work in a day surgery center in downtown Chicago now with different surgeries like podiatry, ortho, lots of plastics.
Which area of Boston would you recommend?

Housing in the Boston area is extremely expensive. I moved here from Chicago 11 years ago and am still in sticker shock. Where you live really depends on your budget. Take a look at the real estate ads on www.Boston.com to get an idea of how much a house will cost. I am still in nusring school so can't tell you about hospitals, but do chekc out the housing prices.

Hey there,
Danvers is a nice area as well as Salem. The north shore is nice. As far as the housing costs. Definitely higher than Chicago but from what I hear the salaries here are higher too. OR nurses are in demand everywhere so you could really take your pick. Some (not all) hospitals in downtown boston require a BSN vs. RN but not many. I hear great things about Brigham and Womens and as far as I know, they're the top paying in the area.
Good Luck w/ your search.
OH and I noticed your tag line....Boston is a HUGE sports town, you'll fit right in....

Pam, the Danvers area is nice, as is the more inland areas near the nh line..the further from the city, the less the housing costs..I am about 30 miles north and have the beaches within 1 hour and the mountains within 2...lots of educational opportunities as well. Many hospitals too...OR is in huge demand. try WWW.craigslist.com or monster .com for job postings in this area...there is Leahy Clinic in Burlington if you want a local hosp, or Beverly or Salem Ma hosps or Lawrence or Lowell General to name a few..all have websites if you google them...good luck and keep us posted!! Hi Pam
Housing costs here are going to scare you. :chair:
A lot of people live in N.H. and commute to northern Ma. or Boston
They don't call it 'TAX - achusetts' for nothing!
Long commutes are the norm here, with the average being 50 min. one way.
Most of the Boston hospitals are unionized and the pay is tops.
You should have no trouble finding a job around here.
Most of the hospitals in the state have a good (if not great) reputation. Do a little digging before accepting any position and you'll be fine.
Good Luck and Welcome to Massachusetts!:welcome:
