Point System

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

can anyone tell what does the point system consist of? I have heard that one can get a certain amount of points pertaining to how many classes you have taken and if you have a previous degree . Thank you for info that is given.

At my school it's like this, your points may be different.

Science courses like micro and A&P: A= 8pts; B= 4 pts; C= 2pts

All other classes: A= 4pts; B= 2pts; C= 1pt

Obviously the more classes you take and do well the higher your points and the more likely you'll be admitted. My school did not give extra points for prior degrees.

hi salaam,

at my school, the points system goes like this:

cummulative gpa x 4=____ pts

required gpa x 16=_____pts

net math x .5=_____pts

net reading x .5=_____pts

sciences a=12 pts, b=8 pts, c=4 pts

current enrollment =2 pts

in district =3 pts

total points=______________

for a maximum total of 131 points. the required gpa is courses like english, psych, sociology, micro, a&p and human growth. then you get points for each science class that you have finished- a&p i & ii and micro. from what i was told, at my school, the average is 95-115 points. of course some people make more than that, but to do that, you have to have a 4.0 gpa (both,) be finished with all your pre reqs, make extremely high on your net and be in district. they have never had a person who made all 131 points, although this semester, there was a classmate of mine who made a perfect score on her net math! she did end up with 120 points.

hope this helps a little bit to explain the point system. of course it will be different at different schools. this is just 1 of many systems.

At the school I am trying to get into it works like this....

Combined GPA for Chemistry, A&P1, English, and Psych. Of course the max here would be 4.0

Then you get 1 points for certain extra courses you have already taken, and 2 points for others for a total of 13 possible points.

You must make a 75 our of 100 to pass the entrance exam called the Hesi A2. Anything you make over 75 is a point. For example if you made an 80 you will earn 5 points. Max here would be 25 points.

You also gets 3 extra points for everything you apply, have met the criteria to enter the program, but do not get chosen. So your second time to apply you will get 3 extra points, your third time 6 etc.

So using the max here: 4.0 GPA

13 Extra class points

25 Hesi points

So 42 points would be the max a first application could get, plus 3 extra points for each time you apply. The 40 people with the highest number of points get a spot in the program.

You'll need to call every school that you want to apply to.

There are no two schools that calculate the scores the same, and they can be extremely complex.

There isn't a "standard" between colleges or in the nursing program...other than the fact they use points, which isn't going to help you much.
