OK so I'm a rmt today a lady came in and said she was also a rmt at another facility. She said she still did paper Mars and wanted to see how computer Mars worked I immediately shut down my Mars and I pulled out a picture with a bar code on it then I put it back immediately . I covered up the picture and showed the bar code and explained i first. We continued talking she asked about the strips of meds that were out of a machine I got a strip out and flashed it to her and put it up. She didn't get names or anything. Is that concidered hipaa she said a lady at the NH I work at told her to come check it out and she was a preachers wife and she was thinking of coming to work there. I'm so scared please help please. I don't want to loose my job let alone be violating hipaa...

Doesn't sound like it to me.

What is an rmt? Regardless, does not sound like a HIPAA violation (but the story is a bit hard to follow). In the future, however, I would not be showing work related product to some random person who comes in and is curious to "look around."

Agree, I don't necessarily see a HIPAA issue here however ...

People don't just wander into other health care institutions under the premise of, "oh, I'm curious ... let's go see how they do it at the facility down the street."

Please don't just offer up information on procedures to random folks who show up unannounced. Refer any visitor to a nurse/charge nurse/administrator.
