...especially for a new grad. I just finished an LPN to RN bridge program a few weeks ago. I have applied online to a couple of hospitals and need to follow up. I hear of people intervieing on multiple units and was wondering what the process is for getting interviewed and hired from the point after talking with a nurse recruiter.
I really would like to get into a new grad program but I know most start in January and I might miss out on that if I dont act fast. I dont want to have to wait until the next go round which I hear is in may. Im still working as an LPN in peds homecare.
I know I should have started applying earlier, but I was very busy and stressed during my last semester. I commuted an hour each way for school and I still worked full time. I just didnt have the time or energy to touch bases with all the hospitals. Now im having a hard time getting the ball rolling.
I did speak with an HR person who told me to call back if I didnt hear from them by friday (the other recruiter who should have been in charge of my application was out for the holidays)..so Ill call them back monday.
Other than that, what should I be doing? Also if u do get an interview and an offer for one floor...do u take that job or do u ask for time to see if u get more interviews and offers from different floors?
anybody? I know most of you have jobs on here! lol...
So how did the process go when u got your first job?

It's a hard question to answer. I think everywhere is different. I applied where I wanted to work first...then got worried and applied EVERYWHERE. Lol- this did NOT help anything really....just depressing as I recieved letters stating I did not meet requirements as a new grad.
I followed up with calls to the places I wanted an interview. Ask for the recruiter or nurse manager. Remember....you may still get a great orientation even if you don't get into a GN program. Make sure to ask about pt ratios and orientation length during any interviews.

Hi,
I'm a new grad to & just got my first job. My best advice is be persistent. Try to find out if the Jan program is full or not. If it isn't, then call the nurse manager directly if you can. Maybe you can squeeze in some interviews before the program starts! I missed the summer start dates because I was out of the country and ended up working in a clinic in the meantime. I start a new grad program next month but they hired me in the end of November! Good luck!!
