504 plan

I am struggling about 504 evaluation. Student with ADHD. No problems from teachers but has many office referrals. This is due to peer relationships this student is always getting into altercations with girl drama. Last year parent requested plan we denied saying she wasn’t substantially limited with no classroom problems. This year parent requested again. End of last year she got expelled for planning a fight. What would you do?

I'm confused, is she new to your school? You said she got expelled last year so I am curious where she is now? Does your school have a school counselor she can be hooked up with? Some sort of student support services? A facilitated peer group (lunch group for example)? What support/accommodations is mom asking for? What about an IEP instead? That might be more like what mom is asking for. This is a great template for anyone to look at:

It sounds like this student is definitely needing support in some fashion if she is starting fights, getting expelled, etc.

To the best of my knowledge, we have never declined a 504 plan that was requested. Perhaps that is why we have so many?

Diagnosis of ADHD means student is eligible for a 504 plan - it is a health impairment.

Remember 504 plan is accommodations - IEP is modifications.

What are the student's needs? Counseling? Extended time on testing? Specific seating?

The fighting may be insight into need for some support, including a behavior plan. At my school that is usually developed by counseling, principal, and dean of students. I might play a role if it a student that takes medication and/or I have a relationship with.
