Hello. I am a cardiac nurse who is looking at several different areas to move to. Can anyone tell me what hospitals in Pitt would be great to work for as a CCU nurse? Can anyone tell me what the cost of living is vs nurses pay and is Pitt a great place to live? I do not want to make the same error as we did last year and move to an area and be very unhappy in it and struggling for a year. Thanks in advance.

Pittsburgh is a wonderful place to live and work! Can't tell you about the cost of living in the city since I live in suburbia and commute. Why not come for a visit and apply to the hospitals while you are here and then make a decision?

i know it has been a while since your post but i thought i would let you know about a few things. pittsburgh has many hospitals, upmc being the largest with about 4 inner city hospital and many community hospital, there is also agh, mercy and west penn hospital. not sure if you are a lpn or rn but try a travel assignment thru an agency, that way they pay you to live in the city and you decide if you like it and if it is for you, then you are not paying for moving cost.
good luck to you.:balloons:

Try this link, UPMC is the one of the largest employers around with over 30000 people working for them.

P.S. Pittsburgh is spelled with an "h".

Pittsburgh/southwestern Pa is a saturated market for medical people. In saying that, most medical people enjoy Pitt., because you always run into someone who works in or associated with the medical field. Pay is decent between 25-30 dollars an hour and the pitt communities are unique, but any city can suck or be great depending on what you are looking for and what you put into it. You must love sports of all kinds. Not just the Steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelers.:welcome:

UPMC Presby has an amazing CTICU. They're doing stuff in there I've never seen before. That said, I recommend checking out Allegheny General and the entire Allegheny West Penn Health System (AWPHS). I've heard their nursing staff is generally satisfied. From a cardiology standpoint, AGH has distinguished itself in the field. UPMC on the other hand has its share of grumbling nurses. I was one of them.
Pittsburgh is a great city within which to live and work. The surrounding countryside is lovely with rolling hills and in the warm months, green and pleasing to the eye. We have neighborhoods that are distinctly ethnic with their long standing traditions and foods. The people are friendly and helpful. The cost of living is below the national average and salaries are decent.
On the downside, there are state and local taxes. Still, it's a heck of a lot cheaper than living in South Florida where I originally came from a couple of years ago. I'm still learning my way around. It's not an easy place to navigate for a newcomer. I cheated. I bought a Garmin.
