Picking a nursing school

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm trying to pick a school that I want to go to, but I'm getting so discouraged! I'm living in hawaii right now, but will be leaving in a year due to my husband getting a new job. I'm currently finishing pre reqs , and we don't know what state we are going to live after this so picking a school is starting to give me a head ache!!!

So, why not just wait until you are settled to pick a school?...

Because I want to move somewhere where I have options for more than one school. Nursing schools are really competitive so I want to have options.

So you know you are moving since your husband has a new job, but his new job doesn't tell him where he is going? Or will you be moving independently of your husbands career move? I'm a bit confused. Will he be able to work wherever he wants?

I totally understand that nursing school is competitive - I'm currently in the process, but we can only control what we can control.

Hello!

1) Concentrate this time to finish all of your pre-requisites in Hawaii.

2) DO NOT start any core nursing classes in Hawaii as none will transfer.

3) Stop torturing yourself with research until you know where you will be moving to.

Once you know which state, look for accredited schools...

Search ACEN Accredited Nursing Programs

Then do more research about them. Their financial aid, curriculum, NCLEX-RN passing rates, etc. You may end up sacrificing a semester in order to get in. If you find yourself in that situation, pay a visit to the campuses, talk with their nursing students. Ask them questions about the program and such.

Pace yourself.

Thank you ! I have another question maybe you can help me with. Do you have any knowledge about cna certifications and how they transfer from state to state?
