Picking a nursing school

Hi, I am looking at nursing schools right now and I was wondering if anyone knows where the best school in the san diego area would be if I want to work at Sharp Mary Birch. I am hoping to become a NICU nurse and I want to choose the school that will look best.

Thanks !

Moved to General Nursing Student

Well, I wouldn't hold my breath for a NICU spot right after graduating. From what I understand, specialty areas are tough to break into initially. The more you are willing to move the more likely you may find a spot. However, most hospitals do not have an NICU but more have l&D units and almost all have some sort of ICU (not all ICUs are equal though). However, if you are willing to work on your resume and get experience in other areas first, it will make you more competitive. A year as a nurse anywhere will make you more competitive in the long run.

We did have one girl go into the NICU but one of the neonatal NPs was our clinical instructor for OB.

Your best bet is to apply to three schools and see which ones will start you first. I'd do 2 bachelors and 1 or 2 associate programs. I know a handful of people who went on to BSN programs because my associate school took too long to start them. One had already finished his BSN when they called if asking if he wanted to start clinicals still.

Thank you for your reply ! I was wondering if you have heard of which nursing program looks the most credible, in San Diego ?
