? about Physiology before Chem

Published

OK, I'll try not to be too confusing here.... I have a question about taking Physiology before Chem...

I am in Anatomy this Semester. I was planning on taking Chem (I) Spring Semester and then Chem (II) next fall.... then Physiology the following Spring. (I'm doing one at a time)....

Anyway, I found out that I can take Physiology without have a Chem within the last 2 years (as I had thought before)..... and I'd really like to take it now since I'm just finishing up Anatomy.....

I had Chem in college about 10 years ago, I did well, but I don't remember a whole lot...

Do you think I can survive Physiology without a Chem course??? Or would it be too difficult??? And if it is too difficult... how will taking Physiology a year and a half after Anatomy work out???

Sorry this sounds so confusing.... My advisor said I'd probably be fine but my BIL who use to teach Anatomy said he wanted to make it a pre-req to have Chem prior to Phys..... TIA everyone!

I think taking physiology right after anatomy would be more helpful. I didn't really find that I needed a background in chem to be successful in physiology. I also think it will be helpful for you to take your two chem classes back to back instead, although I did that and I must say....I couldn't wait to get done with it!! Best of luck!!

Thanks! I'm pretty sure that's what I'm going to do..... I'm glad to know that I can survive! Thanks again!

I took A&P 1 and I am taking A&P 2 now. I havent had Chemsry. I think if I dont need it, no one really would. I remember reading posts about Chemistry was an absolute necessity, but I made an A in A&P 1 and so far, only one exam, but A&P 2 is going the same.

You can do it.

I think having chemistry helps and you have had it recently there is a chapter that goes over Chem in my AP class. I am taking chemistry along with AP 101. You have had Chemistry before so it will probably come flooding back to you. Here Chemistry is not even a pre req for AP however it is a pre req for Micro.

Yes, you can ACE the physiology without taking chem first. You can pick up whatever chem you need as you go. And, since you took chem before, this will be no problem. Your foggy memories from ten years ago will serve you just fine!

This was my experience anyway, I didn't know any chem when I started taking a/p and micro, and earned A's.

What I would never, never do is take two lab sciences in the same term!

I took A&P l, A&P ll, and Micro and did fine. I still have not taken Chem and do not plan to unless I decide to go for BSN down the road. At the colleges here (ADN) Chem is no longer a requirement for the nursing programs if you have a high enough grade in Microbiology.

So you should be able to do fine in Physiology with out Chemistry

I am in Advanced physiology. I took A&P last semester and I have yet to take chemestry--except many years ago in HS. Take the physio class.

I was glad to have my chem background for Physiology and Micro. I guess it depends on the Physiology class........

Hey Hodge.... Where are you in Mpls??? What school are you going to?? I've just started out at Normandale....
