Jun 6, 201214 yr anyone taking pharm this summer?i am,its online. jumped right into dosage calculations,i mean jumped in!!
Jun 6, 201214 yr I am. But for our pharm class we are focusing more on drug classes and how they interact with the body. Been alot of information thus far! I have my second test tomorrow.
Jun 7, 201214 yr I'm taking Pharm I right now on campus and we jumped right into dosage calculations as well. I was a bit nervous at first because I don't like math but it didn't take long to get the hang of it. So far so good :)
Jun 7, 201214 yr anyone taking pharm this summer?i am,its online. jumped right into dosage calculations,i mean jumped in!! I am about to finish up my Pharm...actually finals are next week. My advice is study the drug classes..not just the drugs themselves. If you can figure out what each class is and does, THEN put the drugs into that class that you are studying, it makes it so much easier! As far as dosage calc......it's something that you just need to practice practice practice. Know your conversions, know your formulas. I promise if you keep practicing, it will just click for you!Stay with it and don't let frustration deter you.....good luck!
Jun 7, 201214 yr we jumped straight in too. On a few of them I had trouble. Im not the best with units of measurement, apparently we skipped right over that in gradeschool.
Jun 7, 201214 yr are the quizzes & exams in pharm nclex format? we are using pharmacology for nurses a pathophysiologic approach 3rd ed.
Jun 11, 201214 yr Taking Pharma this summer online and we have to take a math dosage calculation test at the beginning of each Nursing semester. We have Pharmacology for Nursing Care 8th edition iand its 1500 pages long...HEAVY!!! We just started with general characteristics of pharmacology and the roleof the nurse and this week we get into the pharmacological managment of the OB neonate client which is awesome cause i rotate through OB starting this week for 3 weeks.....lots of work for 1 credit through im trying to finish a chart on 30 medications that has to be completed before we even step on the OB unit......yikes.....SERIOUS BUSINESS this nursing...lol good luck everyone
Jun 11, 201214 yr I'm taking pharm in the first half of the summer! Last week was intense - we covered all the intro and basic drug stuff and then did med math and chemotherapeutic drugs (15 chapters worth of stuff!). This week is drugs that act on the immune system and the nervous system.
Jun 12, 201214 yr Oh, gee. Good ol Pharm! When I took it, I didn't have an instructor. We were self directed & self taught. It was horrible. I graduated in May and passed nclex today, but meds are still a challenge for me. Good luck all! Let me know if I can help :/
Jun 12, 201214 yr Author hello...can someone tell me if i am doing this correct...doc orders 45mg po stat. container is labeled 40mg/5ml...how many mls to give?dose desired.....45dose on hand....40/5ml45/40 x 51.125 x 5 =5.625... 6ml right?
Jun 12, 201214 yr Looks right to me! Algebraically..(40mg/5mL)=45mg/X40mgX=225(mg)(mL)X=225(mg)(mL) -------------- 40mgX=5.625mL
Jun 14, 201214 yr hello...can someone tell me if i am doing this correct...doc orders 45mg po stat. container is labeled 40mg/5ml...how many mls to give?dose desired.....45dose on hand....40/5ml45/40 x 51.125 x 5 =5.625... 6ml right? Don't round unless they specifically ask you to round. Almost 0.4 ml of medication might not seem like a lot but it can make a big difference. I start Pharm in the Fall but I have been a pharm tech for 13 years so I feel comfortable with it. Can't wait to start actually :)
