Hello Everyone,
I was just wandering if there are any programs out there for CRNA's where you could specialize in a certain area of anesthesia such as pediatrics. Or is there any type of advanced training for CRNA's after Anesthesia school (the masters program)?

Conz,
Im afraid I can't offer much help..but here's what I know.
As far as more education there are tons of seminar type classes CRNA's. I have seen a couple programs that off doctoral degree in anesthesia. As for as specialty CRNA's I am not sure as all programs prepare the student to be competent in all arenas.

If you choose to practice in an exclusively pediatric area after completion of a nurse anesthesia degree, you would be competent to do so. CRNA programs provide the experience and knowlege to allow you to practice in any area of anesthesia as a safe provider.

I don't know what are of the country you're in, but Wayne Sttate University in Michigan has a pediatrics certification for anesthetists that is, I believe, about 6 months post-master's degree. It can be done immediately following completion of an anesthesia program, or at any later date for an existing CRNA. There probably are other institutions with similar programs.

All CRNA programs include pediatric training. But many of the schools require that you have adult ICU experience to apply.
