PE Guidelines

Our coach is asking for specific guidelines for indoor basketball and volleyball. I am at a high school that loves to play sports and PE gets pretty competitive, particularly during basketball. How are you advising your coaches to handle PE class? I am saying outdoors, 6ft apart, doing independent activities does not require a mask. But I am unsure how to handle indoor sports. What are your thoughts???

Did your state offer any guidance?

I'm in MA and will got some dense guidance, but maybe it can help. Here is the link to all MA guidance (http://www.doe.mass.edu/covid19/on-desktop.html), but sports/PE is covered in:

Guidance on Courses Requiring Additional Safety Considerations and Remote Learning — July 24, 2020

&

Joint Guidance on Modified Sports Seasons for School Year 2020-21

Volleyball is a moderate sport in MA and some modifications would need to be made - we are doing PE remotely or outside right now.

What does the CDC have to say? I recall some significant guidance for band and music kids, including that the teacher needed to get a personal mike so they would be able to speak in a normal tone and not yell. Something like that probably applies here.

Good luck. This is going to be interesting.
