WannaBeMaleRN, do you already have your bachelors? If not, you would still be able to get a Stafford Guaranteed loan. Have you filled out a FAFSA yet? Do you know for sure that you won't get financial aid?

No BS degree, where can I apply for the Stafford loan? I applied for Financial Aid and they turned me down because of my wifes income, I guess they think we have no other bills and it goes in the bank, yh right!!

Since you haven't gotten your bachelor degree, you would be eligible to get a guaranteed student loan. Have you sat down with a financial aid counselor? Normally you can get an application directly through the school, but you can also check through your local bank or check our salliemae.com. Usually the loan is broken into subsidized (where the government pays the interest while you go to school) and nonsubsidized (in which you will be responsible for the interest, which you can defer payment until you graduate).

Are you going to a state school or a private school for nursing? If it is state, the loan should easily pay your tuition, books and fees.

You might want to check with your school/consellor as well. There are some "credit" opportunities [where credit hours are subsidised based on the work you do for the school], as well as scholarships which are available (yes, for males too).

In addition to checking with the financial aid office you should also check with the nursing department at your college. Sometimes they have information about nursing-specific loans, grants, and scholarships that the financial aid office doesn't know about.

Even though your wife's income disqualifies you from certain types of government financial aid you are still eligible for an unsubsidized Stafford Loan because it is not a "need-based" loan. A potential issue though is that there is a limit to how much money you can borrow, depending on your academic status. And, if you plan to attend a private university, the amount you can borrow from the Stafford Loan program will probably not cover your tuition and books. But, as SarasotaRN stated, if you plan to attend a state college you should be ok.
