pay scale for ohio

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

I was recently on a thread where they were talking about pay scales in different states. however, there were no responses from Ohio. I am just beginning a four year degree for a BSN, any comments on what the starting wages are around Ohio. Thank you.:)

I can tell you about Mt. Carmel Health System in Columbus, Ohio. Right now a RN with no experience starts at $19.51/hr but in Feb. 2004 there is an across the board 10% raise for all bedside nurses so that will increase to $21.46/hr. This does not include adding experience or certification pay - only starting pay. The hospital systems in Columbus tend to follow each other - I would bet when Mt. Carmel raises its starting pay, the others will follow.

I was really shocked to hear some of the nurses reply to what they were making. Many on the west coast start out at $12-$15 an hour. They start nursing assistants out at a hospital near me at $11 hr. I am becoming a nurse not for the wages, but to complete a life long dream of mine to help people. At 45 yrs. of age, I am blessed to have an awesome group of professors at my college that are more than willing to help you succeed.

jakesmom; Thank you for the reply.

Hi Guys,

JMA, where do you go to school?

Also, I was wondering, do all nursing programs require you to take statistics? I attend Cols State and that my last Math class, some people were saying that not all do or that they didn't see why we had to take it? Any info would be helpful.

Thanks =)

Hi djswan, I attend Malone College in Canton. As of now (soph.nursing) we are not required to take a statistics course. They say that may change though.

Thanks JMA,

What Math classes did you have to take?

When they looked at my high school transcripts they told me I did not have to take a math class there. I graduated High School in 76! We have to take A&P, Microbiology, and 1 chemistry course. 2 psych, 2 philosophy, 2 english comp, plus a bunch of gen ed requirements.

djswan - I am an Otterbein grad and the bachelors degree programs require a statistics class - it is needed for Nursing Research.

I am in Southern Ohio and I work at Adena in Chillicothe. the RN's start out at $19-$20. I was told that the RN's in Circleville make $26-$28 but I am not sure how true that is.

Trish

Thanks for all the info ladies. Mine is only a 2 yr program, assoc. degree. I still have a ways to go and if I can just make it through these two math classes. If youv'e seen me on here before I stress waaaaaaay to much about it. Failing the Algebra class once already makes me nervous, now Im just trying to figure out if Im going to take it in Spring Qtr or wait till after I have my baby. Im in my 2nd trimester.

Not required to take statistics for my ADN program, but will need it for a BSN completion.

Pay scales for area hosp. in the Dayton area were $18.38 for new grads, but it has gone up to $19.00 now.

Congrats on your upcoming addition Djswan. I graduated from nursing school on Dec 13, and my daughter was born Dec 23. There's nothing like clinicals 9 mos pg. :chuckle

Now's she 13 months and standing at my knee begging for bites of cantaloupe. :p
