Patricia Benner

Can anyone give me any links or articles about her work. I looked it up on google and I did not find a lot about her. I also looked up professional articles through CINAHL Plus.

Hi Kristy joyz, try this hospital's website, in the "Our Nurses" section. It offers a good breakdown and explanation of Benner's model "Novice to Expert." Hope it helps.

When you're researching Benner, be sure to examine the ORIGINAL "Dreyfus Model of Skill Acquisition" This is what Benner based her theory on... but it is rarely acknowledged in the Nursing community. I think if you look at both of them, you'll get a much clearer understanding of the process of competency development.

Thank you for the insight HouTx. After doing a little bit of research online, I have found that Benner adapted Dreyfus Model of Skill Acquisition specifically to nursing. I've attached some links, including the hospital link that I meant to include in my earlier post. The link from doceo.co.uk is particularly interesting.
