Passed on the 3rd time!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi everyone! I just found out this morning that I passed my NCLEX RN board exam.. I'm so happy!

Here's my journey, I graduated in the Philippines back 2011 and passed our local board exam. On my first take here in NJ,USA I took the Live Kaplan review center and that time while I'm reviewing I just got hired in a nursing home as a clerk. So I admit that I really didn't put to much attention and focus on my review because I don't have fixed schedule on my work that time.. Kaplan really helps me and they're questions are definitely harder than the actual board exam but its a good training. I took the exam in NY which is in fact had a fire drill while were taking our exam so imagine how noisy and distracting is that. My computer stops at 245 questions.

On my preparation for my second exam I took the Online HURST review cause I wanna concentrate on my content cause that's my lowest before but then I became full time on my work and additional job and stress on me. I really like the hurst because I learned a lot from their videos. Unfortunately I failed the exam again and I finished the whole 265 questions. I guess because I rushed it and also if your working its really hard to concentrate on your study on my experience.

Finally on my 3rd and last attempt, I quit my job and started my self study at home. I don't wanna waste another penny for a review center. So I bought the Saunders book 6th edition and finished reading the whole book for almost 1 month and then for the next month I started 100 questionnaires everyday only through monday to friday then rest day on weekends. I actually stop for a few weeks cause we celebrate my birthday in a cruise for a week. After that vacation I went back to my routine and this time I did 150 to 200 questionnaires everyday.

I also bought the Exam Cram book with CD on it, I finished it for almost 2 weeks then start answer more questions. I also had the NCLEX Mastery app which is very helpful too. Even the day before my exam I answer 100 questions and read the 35 page pdf. I know everybody will say you wont learn anything few hours before your exam but I cant just sit there and wait. Its all up to you. On my exam I had SATA, prioritization, drag and drop, delegation, infection control, meds, ECG and this time i had no computations and my computer stop at 75 questions. We went to the church after my exam and prayed.

While waiting for the result, I went biking with my friends and go to the park somewhere and watch movies. When I did the quick result I was crying because of happiness and jumping all over place. I called all my family and friends to tell them the good news. Im so thankful and truly grateful that finally I am a registered professional nurse now.

My tips are first always pray and i did rosary too everyday as long as i can. Review your basic content first then questionnaires everyday and be consistent. Make your own study calendar or you can download some free apps. Don't loose hope! Try and try until you succeed. Its worth waiting for. Always think that God is always there beside you.

Good luck to all future Nurses!

Congrats on a job well do.
