Passed NCLEX the second time.

Published

Just want to share my story.

I finished BSN in Philippines way back 2011. Came here, applied cgfns and New York State which took 1 year to process. So in the mean time, I worked as a full time babysitter. Then eligibility came after a year. Quit job after a month and studied for a month with Kaplan and failed January 2013.. I knew I wasn't ready coz I lacked content review. since Kaplan only thought techniques on answering.

Then I registered again after 2 days and was eager to pass it this time.

But Being out of work and paying bills through savings was so hard, so I had to return to my babysitting job but this time for 20 hrs a week only.

I studied on&off feeling discouraged since I was also having family problems and working and studying (very depressed). Then I met someone from new york who passed his NCLEX last April and was actually tutoring people who wants to take nclex themselves. So instead of going for another review center, I had a tutor. It was a one on one review which was better coz I ask so many questions. Since I don't remember anything from college. So I'd meet with him once a week, he would teach me concepts I couldn't understand. We focused on Saunders as our BIBLE and Saunders Q&A book.

A week before my exam I told my boss if i can have a week off so I can study more. So I studied alot, did not talk to any of my family since we were having problems. I didn't want them to stress me out more. I just focused on myself. Also In the middle of that week. I spent 1 night out with friends to relax a bit. Then morning came and I was back to the books. That Sunday I went to church. Monday was my exam (June 10,13). Proctor was nice, she was telling me how we girls have that instinct. So when choosing an answer that u don't really know, go for your instinct. She was my blessing in disguise.

So I took my test. Had 265 in 5 1/2 hrs. Had 30 SATA. 1 calculation. 2 exhibit. I knew my graph was on the middle coz whenever I would get a content question right, it would give me priority questions. But when I would get it wrong, it would go back to contents. So it was like a zigzag for me. When I was done. I felt really horrible. More like suicidal, saying why can't I get it. And why 265. I'm not studying anymore. But when I went home, checked the PVT and got a good pop-up. I was shocked and sent the message to my tutor and friends to confirm if it was the good pop up. They said I passed. After 2 days of waiting. Charaaaaaaaan it was real. Then I told my family and now we are all back in good terms. Lol.

ohmy thank you for this post we are actually mostly the same in terms of having struggles on life. Im eligible to test but not yet paid for pearson vue since Im still thinking when to take my test,,I read Saunders comprehensive review and is currently reading PDA and Kaplan course book THIRD Edition LOL so whats the best way to pass the NCLEX? I graduated last year (2012) and since then on & off reviewing..Im currently working since then so I only have 3-4 hours a day to review plus my weekends. PLEASE LET ME KNOW SOME TIPS and Im FILIPINO too so please help me.

Everyday for work, before I get ready, I try to read or answer questions in Saunders Q&A. Then I go work, take care of the kids and clean the house put the toddler to nap then when I get free time I try to answer questions again in Saunders Q&A (I hardly get free time tho). When I get home I study anything I can. Like read concepts. Coz I forget them so easily. But I figured with constant reviewing of a concept, it'll retain and come out whenever needed. I read Saunders for my first test last January. Just read them, never understood why sign&symptoms were as is. Then on&off reviewing came and I don't remember that I read a certain concept in Saunders. So I had my tutor, he explained them to me whenever we meet, while I read the book at home.

So anyways. That's what u try to do, while working. No life though. A little sacrifice.

I bought the Q&A in amazon. Questions are worded very simple and aligned to Saunders comprehensive book. If you're going to have Him as a tutor, he'll also recommend the book. Btw! I forgot how I'm supposed to send his number??. Idk if its allowed in here? So whenever we would meet up, I already have a full page of question to ask him lol. He lives in newyork so I travel there. But for my last week (final coaching) he came here to New Jersey.

I did PDA lacharity on my last week too. Delegation questions were my favorite. But I didn't have much of it during exam :(

Around march I signed up for ncsbn 3 week course and wrote down their lecture in a notebook so I cud scan whenever. And also wrote the right answers to their questions. That helped me.

Having a notebook is imp. I wrote the drugs I just encountered and anything important like normal values. So the more questions u practice with, the more prepared you will be. Btw read rationales.. I had similar questions in NCLEX :)

Congrats kabayan..

Congratulations :)

I read the whole book of Saunders. Everyday I would read a chapter. Or if it was too long of a chapter, probably like 4-5 pages only a day. Then I would answer few questions on that same day. So it was balanced. Then when I finally finished the book. I focused on Saunders Q&A. Answered comprehensive on my last week. And read rationales the day after.

Il try to help you the best I can. Since license will take 6-8weeks to receive they said. So I have time lol. Saunders was my main bible. You wouldn't know what kind of question you'll get in NCLEX unless you fully prepare for it. Understand your Saunders. Go to YouTube for further explanation too. it's actually about the signs&symptoms of a disease. How did it happen? because if you know this. You'll be able to connect everything easily. NCSBN is good too. Don't forget their questions. It's really helpful.
